If a person never travels overseas and he has silver status (shortly gold)
Is there any value of a RU ?
He is unlikely to be GE

Is it possible to fly on NZ90 from CHC to AKl which is operated by 772 or 763 and use an upgrade?

Yes, I was referring to NZ90.

If you're travelling from Christchurch to Auckland on either NZ34, NZ90, or NZ98 your flight will depart from the International terminal so there's a couple of extra things you need to know. Check in for any of these flights is 60 minutes prior to departure at the international counters. All travellers (including children and infants) will need a valid form of photo ID for check-in and boarding (i.e. passport or drivers licence) and when you get to Auckland you'll be arriving at the International Terminal so customs and MAF screening will apply. These flights are not ideal for domestic only travel due to the additional check in and security procedures, they are however ideal if you're connecting with an International flight out of Auckland.
This strongly suggests that you could use the flights to just travel domestically and since the aircraft will most likely be a 772 or 763 there will be the chance to upgrade.

However searching for it using the NZ and US websites does not seem to indicate that it is currently a valid option.

It was always available as a Dom flight. I have not seen it for a long time...probably pre GFC.

I was on JL5199/5190 (codeshare for NZ99/90) in late 2009. NZ90 did go through CHC then.

I think the CHCH earthquake and the precipitous drop in tourism may have more to do with the route change.

[Update: As always the answer is already on FT: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/13213236-post5.html]

That's a great use of RU if you don't travel overseas
Do they supply a full business class meal ?
