Does anyone know if the 772 or the 747 have the new mattress in business class yet?

No. Would be really easy for NZ to do it and I really dont know why they have not made this easy upgrade as the rest of the product is still really good.

My understanding is they are still the old seats, and as far as I can tell there's no plan by ANZ to retrofit the older fleet with the new seats.

The matress is actually a thick overly for use on the seat when in bed mode.

I seems the new ones could easily be used on the 772 seats.

Granted, the seat and IFE on the 773 is much better, but I must admit that I miss the cozy feeling of the nose section on the 747!

I just flew SFO-AKL-SFO and I have to say I was reminded why I love flying in the nose cabin of the 747 (not just on NZ). It's private, spacious, and intimate. I flew in the upper deck on the way down to AKL, and while also quiet and intimate, the nose section felt much more spacious. I would say the upper deck felt more cramped due to the pronounced curvature of the fuselage, and the main deck aft sections of BP just felt like there were more people (which there were).

Going forward, I think I will always try for that section.

FYI, I was in row 6, which I think is probably the best seat when flying solo. You still have visibility into the rest of the cabin, but you have the half-height closet separating you from the other side of the cabin. So you still feel a part of it but don't have anyone looking directly at you.
