I doesn't sound like tourists should be allowed to fly into CHC if the airport does open today.

On a side not the SQ Sin-CHC landed in AKL at around 9.15

CHC airport website seems to be down...I heard a flight of Airways Corp personel are flying from Paraparaumu to check things over before flights resume but John Key has been given permission to land in a RNZAF aircraft about now.

The first AKL-CHC flights for NZ/JQ seem to be.
NZ543 at 17.30, with Jetstars JQ253 @17.20.

I'm wondering if they are still checking the airbridges before the jet services can restart?

Some of the earlier updates (now gone from CHC airport website) referred to minor damage in the terminal.

Either that or issues with AvSec...

I'm curious about what NZ6291 and NZ6294 are... they are listed as international departures ex CHC to WLG and DUD respectively.
DJ also have a flight to AKL listed as operating from the international terminal.

I'm guessing there must be some damage to the upstairs (jet) area at CHC.

Edit: That said, DJ and NZ operate from different areas so maybe it's something more complex?

Could be possible its only a wall they splits the NZ & JQ/DJ domestic gates apart. Just seems strange that they are letiting International Jets in, but not Domestic.

There's a fair amount of tarmac between the two, isn't there? I see a JQ flight is now listed as on final call from domestic, which makes it even stranger.

Only thing I could think of is a lack of power to the airbridge specifically or inability to fulfill staffing requirments for aviation security? Must be a logistical nightmare for airlines...can't imagine they would open the terminal if there were structural problems.

Just took an ATR from CHC to ZQN. Scheduled 2.40pm departure, and luckily we left only about 40 minutes late.

Everything was well handled by the staff, and we had some time in Koru to grab some welcome food and drink.

I did not see any obvious damage within the airport.

There were only about 10 people on the plane.

Given the number of people disrupted all day that is one of the most surprising things I've heard
