Are upgrades possible on Korean Air?

My dad will be flying KE from BOM-LAX and returning SFO-BOM on an N class ticket.

So here are my queries -

(a) Would it be possible for me to upgrade him to bus. class using my miles? If yes, whats the best way to go about doing it?

(b) Hoping against hope - any chance of mileage earning?

Thanks, in advance, for your responses

a) if you mean Fb miles, the answer is no (KL, AF, NW and KQ only)
b) according to the KL/FB website, only Z,W, Y and S are eligible.

Few years ago as a f+rouge I was upgraded to biz on a KE operated flight with an AF ticket (CDG-ICN). I was travelling with a non frequent flyer and he got upgraded too. For sure the plane was completly pack in Y. The fare we paid at that time was within the middle range for Y ticket (don't know if it help).
OP UP was performed at the gate in CDG at the last minute.
