If I book a flight but don't board - do I still earn XP?

My point balance is set to expire at the end of this year. I have a bit over 100k points, so I am thinking of booking a cheapish ticket with AirEurope and not boarding the flight.
Would that keep flying blue points?

No. If you don't board a flight, you receive no XP, no miles.

What makes you think that....of course not, else we would all be doing it.

Tbh I feel like it should work that way, given that you've spent the money (and assuming you don't have anything refunded), but unfortunately it does not.

The last thing an airline wants in a travel-heavy, high weather risk, period near end of the year is a surge of speculative tickets.

Unfortunately not. You need the experience to move ahead (or just buy SAF).

I believe that the SAF option also requires to fly.

That’s true, but you can buy them to replace XP you would have otherwise earned with other flying. You can earn more while flying less. So this is essentially earning without flying compared to the pre-SAF system.

By the way....a "cheapish ticket on Air Europa" probably would earn no miles or XPs anyway, even if you flew it.

They are one of the few (only?) examples of an airline with revenue business class fares which earn nothing in Flying Blue; without having looked at their earning table recently, I am pretty sure many of their cheap Economy fare classes earn nothing in Flying Blue.

That's true, but of no use to the OP now who needs to earn XPs in the next 11 days and so therefore *has* to fly.

Isn't there the option to donate 2000 miles for 1 XP to charity?

or was that removed....

that might be a solution if the amount of XP required if fairly low.

In my experience, if you're not flying, you're just wasting your money.

I heard some people who managed to get the miles/xp with a retroclaim, but they got boarding passes printed at the airport and used this to back up their retroclaim.

Thanks guys. In the end booked a flight Madrid to Barcelona for 40 euros, spent entire day there and return by high-speed rail. Got my points and keeping my status.
