Redesigned AF/KL Apps

Just updated my apps today and it seems both the AF and KL apps got a redesign and now seem to work almost identically. Sadly it seems for some things you have to get more clicks in to get what you want (selecting a seat, seeing your FB dashboard), but overall it seems quite nice. Let's see how it works during the trip.

What are your thoughts on it?

same thoughts , but the "get more clicks in to get what you want" is not new , as i guess AFKL most likely decided to save costs and ask same team to develop both applications in same way , we can see similar patterns since 1 or 2 years

I don't have the new KLM app yet but the AF app doesn't let me select seats on DL-operated segments, which the (old, I guess) KL app had no problems letting me do.

I still don't understand why they need 2 apps 😬
SkyteamEP, Wil973 and offvoice like this.

Yes, until you manually update the app, you will still see the old app.

I dare say it's because they retain 2 brands and 2 certificates of airworthiness.

Under the hood, once you look past the different badges, it's basically all the same

The new design is nice and it looks like both AF and KL are now the same app with just color & logo differences. But its a pity usability went 2 steps back:
  • Had to login again after upgrade, and just now I need to login all over again, and with that it also lost the overview of all bookings (previous app version retained the list of bookings but updated it only when logged in).
  • Selecting Manage seat from trip overview doesnt show the seatmap straight away but you now need to click through 2 additional screens.
  • When you dont select a different seat and want to go back to the trip info you need to confirm a pop up Are you sure to stop your shopping? (for example: Im just checking if better seats became available)
  • When on a booking detail screen, the Bookings button doesnt bring you back to an overview of all bookings
  • A trip no longer shows how much miles and XP one will earn

The bug of constantly being logged-out is back.. and dark-mode seems to be gone.

I don't like it. I liked the previous KLM app.

Strange, I just updated mine from the iOS App Store and its still the old design.

Did you mean uninstall and re-install?

Not sure if its a feature of the new app, but upon arrival at AMS this morning the miles and XPs for my overnight KLM flight had already posted.

No, that's not new. Depending on the time zones and sweep time, XPs for overnight would potentially post during the flight since beginning of program.

I guess there is a fixed hour when they process the miles crediting, in my case I always get them somewhere early morning the next day after a flight.
