Improved/Added Premium Economy on AF/KL

Yesterday during the Shareholders meeting/GA there seemed to be a few updates on AF/KL Premium Economy:
  • New dedicated meal/"main dish" on AF Premium Economy starting May 2022 (different than Economy as it was until now);
  • From summer 2022 the Boeing 777 will start replacing the shell seats with the recliner seats from the A350 on AF;
  • KLM will add Premium Economy as "Premium Comfort" starting summer 2022 and fully rolled out by the end of 2023;
  • KLM seats will have a 38" pitch, 8" recline and 6.7" extra legroom (not clear if compared to Economy Comfort or to Economy). No info on meal offering or other soft service elements;
So overall enhancements seem to be arriving soon on Premium Economy throughout the AF-KL Group.

Just curious

By adding a new class Premium Economy, do you think people who is flying Economy Comfort, can have a good surprise in the next months ? Same, but in other way : people who booked a Premium Economy, will fly Economy Comfort, because the new seats are delayed?
How they manage ? Do they have a accurate schedule which inform the commercial department when to start to sale the new seats ?

For now it seems they are not on sale yet, so indeed if that is delayed some might find themselves lucky and invited to seat in the new seats for a short while. The bigger issue would indeed be what happens if you paid PE and the plane changed to one without the new seats. They’ll probably downgrade and pay the compensation or who knows, bump to J if seats are available.

Also I checked yesterday and the KLM website now integrates Premium Comfort in all its pages (or in most). It seems Premium Comfort will also have a separate meal than Economy.

KLM sold it to me but booked in normal economy and later admitted they should not be selling yet. It was quite a mess.

Ouch haha 😳 On the website I didn’t see it yet and they didn’t even add the option of Premium Economy in the menu on the homepage.

But when this gets sorted at least we’ll have a bit more options, especially to North America, with Delta/AF/KL all having PE. The price might go a bit down as extra capacity/supply appears on those routes.

Does that mean that Economy Comfort is going away (like AF), or that KL Premium Economy will be in addition to Economy Comfort (like DL)?

My understanding is that they will follow Delta’s model and have both. Basically premium economy and “extra legroom economy”

Inflight service will be announced /revealed this weekend during Dutch Open Golf tournament. Economy comfort zone seats will remain available , slightly more of them in most planes. Planes ( b 777 fleet) will be changed 1 by 1 . some destinations will see dedicated Premium comfort first. for lay out check the page for specifications.
W class will be 21-28seats
