Experiences on Mileage Run Flights

This is an attempt to spin off the discussion about experiences and mileage crediting while on so-called mileage run fares, so it doesn't clutter the main thread and we can keep that clear for any fare offers and any issues with booking them.

My Alitalia flights from Athens to Amsterdam (via Rome FCO) were quite pleasant with attentive service and decent meals. I again enjoyed the Umbrian white wine on offer and I also tried the Prosecco which, while I am no Prosecco fan, I thought was very good. Furthermore, the onboard beer is not the usual Heineken water but a brew called Forst, which with such a name must have been brewed somewhere up in the Südtirol (Alto Adige), probably near Bolzano.

The photos which follow show both the standard meal and the seafood special meal, which is best ordered by calling the Alitalia call center.

Additionally, all miles ended up being credited without having to do any retroclaims, including for my previous DUS-LIN-GVA and vv trip. I made sure at each check-in that my number was clearly in the booking and on my boarding passes, but the miles and XPs showed up in an odd fashion. For the return itinerary they showed up 2-3 days later, then the miles and XPs for the outbound appeared a couple of days after that. So maybe the relevant miles and XPs get credited for Alitalia only once the entire itinerary has been completed.

Thanks for sharing Concerto. Looks like decent airplane meals :)

The salmon was very good, not as dry as it looks. It actually came with a salad topped with smoked salmon, not the one pictured.

All four sectors were flown on a 320 aircraft.

I'm guessing we'll be limiting this to Skyteam flights right? I haven't really done any flights purely for the miles, however plenty times I have chosen AZ in business over direct KL options for the extra XPs.

At the time of my last flight I did post my experiences in the AZ forum as well.

I think if you get XPs from non SkyTeam airlines, such as Bangkok Airways or Malaysian, it's perfectly ok to share any experiences or impressions here. I was just trying to declutter the main mileage run thread, so that it can really concentrate on the fares offering lots of XPs. The one most guilty of writing things that are irrelevant and somewhat off topic in the main thread is me, so I am trying to amend that. It would be quite easy to have the two threads in two different windows if needed, or to click between the two of them.

Do we earn miles and XP on PG now ? I just bought some flights on PG this week and checked FB website but PG is only mentioned for redemption.

Yes. I took two flights with Bangkok Airways and for one they posted the XP automatically, the other one I had to retro claim.

PS. They were KL issued tickets with KL flight numbers.

This is the thread to look at:

But there seems to indeed be some doubt about Bangkok Airways.

Flights with KL numbers have always earned with FB, irrelevant of which airline operates the flight.

If Bangkok airways without KL numbers would earn is questionable. If the warning charts doesn't show that then likely it won't.

I'd say that this discussion may actually fit better in the other mileage run thread though :)

Indeed, I was asking about PG-coded and operated flights. AF- or KL-coded/PG-operated have never been a problem as for all code-shares. At the moment, PG is only listed as a partner to redeem miles.

Another experience to relate, so to speak, is that it is important to make sure your FB number is on the boarding pass. This applies to flights that are not with AFKL. On my recent trips the number did not appear on the outbound boarding pass so I made sure to insist it was in at check-in for the return trip.

As there had been quite a bit of time between the outbound and the inbound, I could observe that the miles were not credited for the outbound. But the miles were credited for the inbound some 2-3 days after the end of the trip. A couple of days after that, the miles for the outbound were credited. A bit strange, maybe Alitalia (in this case) credits miles after the whole trip has been completed.
