Advice on flying / upgrading on KQ?
My wife and I are headed from the US to Tanzania this fall for a Kili trek and safari. I booked economy class KQ tickets from JFK to JRO (Kili) by way of a 2hr layover in NBO. That's an estimated 14hr flight from New York to Nairobi!
We've never flown KQ before. Any advice for us? If I wanted to try to surprise my wife with an upgrade to business class for the JFK to NBO outbound leg, any rough guess as to the minimum bid required and what might reasonably be required to win? |

I’m reading general advice, not specific to KQ, that you should bid around 1/3 of the price difference between economy and business. That’d be about $1,000 which is pretty rich for us but I’m still going to try. It would make for a great surprise present for my wife’s 40th. If all goes according to plan, we’ll actually be summiting Kili on her 40th! Any other advice on flying KQ or this particular flight from NY to Nairobi would be appreciated. Most of the stuff I’m reading online is written by business class travelers. |
