Fee when cancelling redemption with very low tax

Apologies if this has been answered already but a quick search did not bring anything relevant.

I have a China Eastern redemption with a less than 5 EUR tax component. If I cancel this reservation, will I be charged the full 45 EUR cancellation fee to my card and refunded the original tax separately? Or is it like BA Avios where if the tax is lower than cancellation fee then all you lose is the tax amount?

The cancellation fee is unrelated to the tax component. Its an administrative fee, and therefore they will likely ask you to pay the remaining ~40 euro's to have the miles re-deposited.

BA's cancellation admin fee is also unrelated to the tax component, though, and yet they will not charge it beyond the amount of the taxes, hence the OP's question. While I would agree that BA's approach is unusual and that it is more likely that the fee will be charged, it would be helpful to have confirmation from someone who has actually been through it in a comparable situation.
