How can they possibly charge a higher amount in miles to upgrade than the price for a full award ticket?

They probably just calculate 1€ = 143 miles - according to another examplesin this thread this is the magic formula.

(see above - 320€ or 45500 miles)

That's hopeless. I paid not much more than that for my F class booking next month.

The 2k 'ish offers from J to P however have been there in the old times. Really different are the irrational Y to J offers....

CDG-DTW 2/19/18 on the 777-200 - I was offered an upgrade from X to C for 509 EUR at OLCI. Took it and enjoyed the business class service.

I booked through and will credit to Delta so I will report back what MQM and RDM they give.

Not in my experience; generally J->P has been between EUR1200 & 1500 on this route up until just over a year ago. On HND-CDG it's even worse, 2 years ago I was offered an upgrade for EUR1500, this Xmas it was over £2700 (>EUR 3000). More than double.

As it happens, if I book a long haul flight in J I'm quite happy so don't look to upgrade. La Premiere is an occasional treat.

Upgrade prices for AF257 SIN-CDG yesterday 20/02. Was booked in J and got an offer to upgrade to P at the check-in desk which I declined.

Agent told me 4 free seats in P, 9 in J. Don't get me started about the AF friends & family game that started at the end of boarding, mister commandant de bord got out of his cockpit to invite his guests into La Premiere and their children into J.

So 1€ really equals 143 miles when used for redemption.
On the other hand side 1€ = 4 miles (ivory) up to 8 miles (platinum) when earning miles ...

just rediculous

Thanks very much for sharing!
Does one know whether these prices are fixed or vary from day-to-day depending on availability?

Because 671 EUR for Y to J is a definitely an acceptable price in my eyes when you book a cheap V or R ticket on such a long leg. The price is miles is ridiculously high though.

SIN-CDG are usually empty in premium classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursdays so so and full on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Less true in the summer as they send quick change aircrafts with less J seats.

By the way I was on AF257 24 hours later (just arrived in Paris actually). Flight was full in J. Service was a disaster but that is off-topic.
