I know it's the Euro J but then if we'd divide it like $100 TLV-CDG and $400 CDG-SFO then I'd have paid that $100 for securing blocked middle seat on a 4 - 5 hours flight as well (just hypothetically if I was deciding to pay $400 for CDG-SFO upgrade or $500 TLV-CDG-SFO upgrade).

First time that I got the offer to upgrade with miles, too.

CDG-NUE, Y -> C, 119 EUR or 30.000 miles (ridiculous)

On the other end: flying LOS-CDG-JFK. Was hoping to get offered J from PE on LOS-CDG since it's an overnight flight, but I was not.

I was offered CDG-JFK on a 777-300ER for $397.88, which I happily took.

I'm not super familiar with the AF/KLM upgrade process (I generally fly domestic DL) - is there any change that calling AF would get me an opportunity to UG on the LOS-CDG leg, or do they not offer it if it's not at OLCI.

with this new upgrade pricing schema - will you receive business class mileage when you upgrade or is it still that you get the miles for the paid class?

It’s still not clear to me. Previously you were earning the miles of your originally-booked fare/class. Now that the prices are reaching crazy amounts, and correspond more to a fare difference rather than a discounted paid upgrade, it would make sense/be fair to earn the miles of the upgraded class, FB being so generous by nature [sarcasm on] ;)
In any case, do not forget that all this will not be valid anymore from April 1st 2018, as miles earning will depends on the fare paid and paid upgrades will be eligible.

interesting will be whether the new cos (purchased as cash upgrade) will determine the XP earned ;)

Mia-cdg (y->w) €619

I guess when you now book an expensive fare, the way to upgrade is then to scout for Z fare (or A fare if to W) openings to see if you can change the entire ticket cheaply (in my case the drop for the return portion went down from $6500 to $1900 ish).

Got an offer from Y to W for my upcoming CDG JNB flight on monday for €299. No miles options. Got it as I find the all Economy lower deck in the A380 quite depressing.

Indeed, good question...

That would probably reflect the price difference between Y and PE, I would hardly call it a good deal unless OP gets the extra miles as well...
