On the way back from DXB to CDG : 44100 miles or 309 Euros for an upgrade from PE to J on the 787.
Being the same party of 4 and being a day flight, we declined. The PE cabin was pretty full.
It was funny to see another great offer for our connection flight CDG-DUS on Hop E170 : 239 Euros "only" per passenger. That's an expensive pack of cashews we have here...

Did you take it? Sounds quite a steep price for "discounted" offer to me.

Question

Question on upgrade: what's the best strategy to look for an upgrade award? Do you ask for it when you check in, or should you attempt to call the airline earlier?

Check about upgrades at every stage of the process
.
  1. purchase
  2. online check in
  3. luggage drop off
  4. airport sales counter
  5. boarding gate
  6. inside the plane
  7. etc .....
.
And compare the prices with what is it worth in cash for same upgrade, how much this seat costs as normal purchase , what others may have been asked , personnal feelings (is it worth it ? is this amount of miles easy to get back ? etc ..)
