No more FB award flights to Hawaii?
 

So, we're planning on going to Hawaii in Sep 2018.

DTW to LIH and stay a week
hop to Maui for another few days
OGG home to DTW

I'm planning on using either Delta or FB miles for these flights.

When is the right time to start looking? With award travel, which I'm still fairly new to, I always assumed it was as far out as possible. So today I hop on the KLM website and search flights. It goes out to next Aug, and basically no matter what dates I put in...no flights available! What's the deal here?

If I search in Nov 2017...a few good award flights pop up at the 15k mile price. Is around 90 days out the time to book?

Then if I search on the DL website...lowest fare available every day if I search Sep 2017...right around the corner. Fares further out are more expensive. If we end up going with DL, do we just exchange our award ticket for a cheaper fare as the date gets closer?
