Booking award ticket for flight after expiry date

I have a bunch of FB miles that are due to expire by the end of May.
I am planning book a flight with award miles during the month of May but the actual flight will be in June is this possible? Are the miles directly taken from the account at the moment of booking or only at the moment of flying?

As long as you secure the tickets prior to expiration you will be fine. Miles come out when the reservation is confirmed. Instantly.
