KLM/Delta check in counter

Hi, this may be a stupid question. If KLM and Delta are doing a shared flight, would they have the same check in counters at the airport? I am going to Turkey from Vancouver with someone in a couple of weeks. We booked our tickets separately. his to and return flights are with KLM and mine is KLM to Turkey and Delta for the return flight. We have a layover at Amsterdam. If we can't select our seats online ahead of time and had to do it when we get to the airport, does that mean he has to check in with KLM and me with Delta? Or would they have the same check in counter so we can get make sure we get seats together?

Thank you in advance!

Hey DDgirl, welcome :) I would think it is more than likely that you would both be checked in at the same desk.

Wow, thanks for the fast response!

The seat issure is driving me nuts. I orignally had seats reserved and they disappeard on KLM's site for some reason and can't seem to select it again. Anyway, still working it out, but just want to make sure we can still get seats together if for some reason we can do it online.

You usually check-in with the airline that is operating the flight. Exceptions are the big hubs where, in the context of an alliance, only the dominating airline at the hub has counters. Example : at CDG, DL does not have any counters. AF is taking care of DL and KL check-in. In AMS, KL takes care of everything, etc

Klm does not allow you to select seats until check-in. I stressed over this the first couple times, but this is normal.

Only correct for intra-European flights. There seat selection happens at check-in time, 30hrs before departure.

On transatlantic (and I assume other flights leaving Europe as well) offer seat selection from 90days before departure. A colleague just used that feature a few days before for a flight between AMS and SFO.

Sorry, just assumed connection in AMS -- didn't think KLM had direct Vancouver to Turkey?

Hi, yeah, we are flying from Vancouver to IST with a layover in AMS.

I believe, like what ixs said, for transatlantic flights we are able to select the seats 90day before departure (the website stated this as well). I wasn't able to select the seats online even thought the seat map shows the seat as available. An error messgae just keep popping up saying the seat isn't available. I then called Delta to do it manualy for my return flight (for some reason, there wasn't any problem when selecting the seats for the flight from YVR to AMS). After it's done, I double check both Delta and KLM's site to make sure the seats are confirmed. Everything was fine until a bout a week later, my seat on the return flight was gone from the KLM site, but still showing on the Delta site. I guess will have to call KLM to check.

KLM does not honor Delta seat assignments

I made reservations by Delta to Doha and the flight to Doha was by KLM connecting at Amsterdam. I made my seat selections. You know the rest of the story. The selected seats disappeared as my date of travel closed in. I was annoyed.
What I found was the following:
KLM has a Super Economy seats (God knows what these are as they are exactly the same as others) and they are strewn all over the economy cabin with no logic. If your original seat selection was in one of the forward rows of the economy, you are likely to find that you had been reassigned to one of the back rows.
I think the purpose was to charge more for insignificant improvement and to make people who paid more feel good.

If you are referring to KLM's Economy Comfort seat and if you are booked under the DL-code and have selected one of these seats on the DL website the chance is very high that your seat request has not been forwarded to KLM.
This is because it is necessary to pay for these seats and it is not possible to pay for them through the DL website.

As long as you are not selecting an Economy Comfort seat your seat request should be honoured.

I have a similar question. I'm flying a KLM (KL 622) flight next week from ATL-AMS that I booked through Delta. My flight shows up on delta.com, but I couldn't change my seat. I went over to klm.com and could make seat selections on their site. I selected an Economy Comfort seat and while deciding whether to pay for it or not, my session expired. When I logged back in, it has me sitting in the Economy Comfort seat, (10J) but I never paid the extra fee for it. Air France's site (I'm connecting with them) shows me in 10J as well. Delta still has me in my original seat, 33C.

So my question - Where am I sitting? Did I get an Economy Comfort seat for free (or will this be corrected at some point)?

Do you happen to have status on DL? Sometimes I believe DL DM/PM members are able to select EC free of charge.

This flight will qualify me for Silver Medallion, but as of now I don't have any.

Why is this the case? It reminds me of a LCC

Is there a strategy then to securing them at T-30?

Exactly the same happened to me for upcoming flight AMS-SFO with my family in June. However, class shown on Manage my Booking was "economy" and not "economy comfort". And, of course, after a few weeks the seat reservations disappeared. Tried again, but without success :) and ended up with paying for the Economy Comfort seats. Please let us know how things turned out for you!
