Earliest Platinum Qualification EVER???

I have 111K level miles so far in 2009, once I hit 115K level miles, the balance will roll over into 2010.

For rest of 2009, all Skyteam flights earn double level miles, so Business Class earns 150% x 2 =300% level miles:

D27 DL JFK-TLV in J $1300 17000 level miles (5700 mi x 300%)
D30 CZ DXB-CAN-KUL in J $1278 15600 level miles (5200 mi x 300%)
D31 KE/DL KUL-ICN-ATL-YYZ in J $850 32200 level miles (10600 x 300%)
J12 DL/KE YYZ-ATL-ICN-KUL in J $850 16100 level miles (10600 x 150%)
(2 week recuperation in Indonesia!!)

76,900 level miles - 4000 level miles (rollover threshold) = 72,900 level miles

Platinum status earned for 2011 on Jan 12, 2010 for $4278

Gilding the lilly...will have earned 10 years of Platinum, so Plat for Life with FB.......OFF THE MILEAGE EARNING/ELITE QUALIFYING TREADMILL!!!!

Amazing. Congrats for that great qualification.

Well done indeed! I'm a bit jealous because I didn't get the double-level-miles offer or I would have been on an even slightly more impressive rhythm (already 149,000 level miles this year, and if I had had the double miles offer from November, I would have passed 200,000!).

As for fastest qualification ever, one of my friends managed his 2007 qualification and over half of his 2008 qualification before the end of 2005 (yes, t-2 years!) by accruing somewhere over 300,000 qualifying miles (largely with first class travel and some crazy spending on his AF Gold Amex card!) so for all I know this is probably the standing record! :)

(PS: note to AF - I saw him the other days and he told me he hasn't booked AF or KL at all in 2009 because of the 1/4 changes)

The DL JFK-TLV ticket was ex-TLV where fares are cheaper than ex-US.

The CZ DXB-KUL ticket was sheer luck, just my trolling the web looking for any kind of Skyteam Business Class fare from just about anywhere in Europe/Mideast to just about anywhere in North/South Asia..how's that for flexibility!! I was focusing on AF, KL, KE, Kenya, OK and only had the epiphany of CZ at the end.

The DL KUL-YYZ fare was a quasi-'mistake fare' that stuck around for quite awhile but is now gone!

Back in the old (i.e. RoyalWing) FD days this kind of thing was routine. All points (FD used both tier and award points, not miles) over the threshold automatically carried over to following years, so it was not all that difficult to qualify for RW for the next three, four or more years. Without the help of a credit card.

Live in NL and got the deal but didn't make use of it because of other priorities... now I regret it because time spent on those other priorities actually wasn't worth it and a few stays around the world would help me put it behind.

bah...

As mentioned by bearaway, it wasn't a question of country, just of a targeted promotion. It seems they mostly tried to target those who were below the requalification threshold at whatever time they examined things. So quite a few of us do feel discriminated across countries! ;)

PS: Of course, when other airlines offer such offers (DL does it regularly), they do not target them, and this sort of makes sense as they want to make all frequent flyers fly. In my case, (as a 'non-targeted') all my end of years reservations have been on BA, LH, LX, and QF. If I had been targeted, I would done Skyteam instead.
