Hi!
According to airliners.net, the first delivery would be planned for October 2009 and the first destination (only for a few weeks) would be DXB.

JFK, LAX, and perhaps NRT would be logical destinations..

According to airliners.net and its very reliable AF internal source, it should be SIN, NRT, JNB and IAD.

I read that as well, but it was a long time ago... I suppose things could have changed?

OT but does the SQ 380 flight will depart of T2 or T1. T1 in CDG is the *A terminal but has this terminal been homologated for the 380. On the otherside if it has to depart from T2 SQ won't have any lounge to offer in the terminal???

JNB would make sense. Everytime I take the 997 at midnight it is half empty whether it be a B772 or B77W yet the AF995 at around 2030 is packed to the gunnels. Just send one 380 out at 10pm would make all sorts of sense on the way up - of course it would mean leaving a 380 sat on the ground all day in JNB (difficult until they have a few) or a day flight from CDG which just won;t work.

I guess not many airports can yet handle the A380 as special gates has to be constructed for the purpose at each operating airport.

Doesn't the A380 also require longer runways?

Emphatically no!

The reason is that A380 has so big wings. A380 wings have something like 156% the area of 747-400 wings. A380 is heavier than B747, but the weight of A380 is just 137 % of 747. This means that A380 can, thanks to its huge wing, stay in air while flying very slowly, and take off and land in a short distance.

Actually, even Airbus was surprised how short. Their aerodynamic predictions turned out to be far off the mark, and A380 wing gives 6 % better lift than hoped. When flight tests started, the Vref landing speed was thought to be 137 knots, but flight tests discovered that A380 could fly 4 knots slower than expected, at 133 knots.
