FAQ 5A1 - Paris CDG Airport FAQ

I tried to collect general information on CDG Charles de Gaulle Airport Paris and to give answers to the questions, you may have, concerning connections, lounges, ground transportation, etc.

CDG Charles de Gaulle Airport Paris, that is:

Terminal CDG1
(oneworld and StarAlliance)

and the newer Terminal CDG2 (mostly used by AirFrance and Skyteam Carrier)
CDG2 Terminal A,B,C,D and Rail Station

CDG 2 Terminal E,F
CDG2E on reduced service since the accident last year here is the FlyerTalk thread with info about CDG 2E

All Airlines with local contact information and Terminal at CDG can be found here

Terminal 1

When you get off the plane, follow the "Correspondance Transfer" signs up to the Transfer desk to check your departure terminal.
If your connection is at Terminal 1:
- You do not need to go through police controls
- Find out which departure satellite you have to go to at one of the two Transfer desks between satellites 2-3 and 4-5

If your connection is at Terminal 2:
- For an international flight: Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (within customs zone) at satellite 3
- Domestic flight or Schengen: Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls
Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 1) at shop level

If your connection is at Terminal 3:
- Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls, then collect your luggage
- Next take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 2) at shop level

If your connection is at Terminal Sud or Terminal Ouest at Orly Airport:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls
- To get to Orly by the RER B + automatic metro Orlyval:
Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 2) at shop level, in the direction of Gare RER 1
Next take the RER B to Antony RER station, and then follow the Orlyval connection for Orly Airport
- To go to Orly on the Air France bus:
Take the shuttle at arrival level, exit 34

Unfortunately, the RER B and Air France buses do not provide facilities for disabled people; it is recommended that alternative arrangements be made in advance.

Terminal 2 (Air France and other Skyteam Carriers)

When you get off the plane, follow the "Correspondance Transfer" signs up to the Transfer desk to check your departure terminal.
If your connection is at Terminal 2:
Check your departure terminal at the Transfer desk:
- For an international flight, departures are from Terminals 2A, 2B, 2C, 2E or 2F: Take the Air France shuttle bus (within customs zone) situated close to the Transfer desk
- For a domestic flight or Schengen, departures are from Terminals 2D or 2F: Proceed to the public area and follow the "Correspondance Transfer" signs
more explicite info to come, I am checking old FT threads for advice
If your connection is at Terminal 1:
- International flight:
Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (within customs zone) situated close to the Transfer desk
- Domestic flight or Schengen:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls
Then take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 1) to Terminal 1
If your connection is at Terminal 3:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls, then collect your luggage
Next take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 5) to Terminal 3
If your connection is at Terminal Sud or Terminal Ouest at Orly Airport:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls
- To get to Orly via the RER B + automatic metro Orlyval:
Go to the SNCF/RER station by the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 3) or by the pedestrian walkway
Next take the RER B to Antony RER station, and then follow the Orlyval connection for Orly Airport
- To get to Orly via the Air France bus from Terminal:
-2A and 2C: take exit 2 of 2C
-2B and 2D: take exit 2 of 2B
-2E and 2F: take the connecting passageway, exit 3

Unfortunately, the RER B and Air France buses do not provide facilities for disabled people; it is recommended that alternative arrangements be made in advance.

If your connection is at the SNCF train station:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs, collect your luggage and go through police controls. From terminal:
-2A: Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 3), exit 8
-2B: Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 3), exit 6
-2C & 2D: Follow the signposts and take the pedestrian walkway
-2E: Take the pedestrian walkway or the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 3) exit 2.06, Level 2 (Departures)
-2F: Take the pedestrian walkway or the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 3) exit 2.08, Level 2 (Departures)

minimum connection times:

Terminal 1 : All connections : 90 minutes
Terminal 2 : All connections : 90 minutes
Terminal 3 : All connections : 60 minutes
Between terminals : All connections : 120 minutes
Between airports CDG / ORY : All connections : 180 minutes

within the same carrier and within the same Terminal, faster connection times can be made. Terminal2D has been reorganized, you can access all gates from any security checkpoint which reduces wait-time. I'd say 45min is realistic. (within Schengen)

restaurants, shopping:

You can take a moment to relax in one of the many Terminal bars (Café Sélect, France Café, etc.). There are also various Relay shops on hand, selling newspapers, magazines and books.

Are you waiting for a transfer and have to stay in the airside zone? If so, make the most of the occasion to do a little shopping. You will find all the major Paris fashion brands …at duty-free prices!
You can also eat in one of the several restaurants available, such as the Hippopotamus, Clément Ader and brasserie FLO . McDonalds (between 2A and 2C, between 2B and 2D) and Quick (2F) can be found at the airport, too ;)
If you feel like a change of hairstyle, there is a hairdressing salon (Coiffure Christian Gilles) in the hall of Terminal 2F.

ground transportation

you have three ways to get into town with public ground transportation

RATP is the local metro and bus company. Serving the Airport with commuter trains RER trains from the railstation between Terminal ABCD and EF.
The other way to get to downtown Paris is the bus.
Its operated by RATP and its called Roissybus

or you can use the Air France Coaches

I know there are alot of things to add ... to be continued with your help :D

Very good idea! Transferring at CDG is not always that easy or fun. I would like it if we could include good restaurants or other places nice to wait in.

will be done. I am working on it :D

Hmmm... Sorry for me not responding sooner but I am under the gun with some major deadlines at the moment (and I thought summer was a dead period!).

I think this thread may be better served as :

a) a sticky

and

b) more appropriately in the Paris airports forum as opposed to here. Why? Because even though its AF's hub, it's not relevant to FB (besides, will we have a similar one for Schipol?).

I'm open to comments before moving it...

I didn't even know we had a Paris airport forum! Learn something new every day!

Does one need a guide to navigate Schiphol? I don't think so :)

Seriously, I don't think it's a good idea to move a useful thread to where no one can see it (Paris airport forum - huh?)

Requested information; Minimum Connection Time. (For T1<->T2 I believe it is as much as 2 hours!!!)

I'll try to put this in. I just need help from other fellow FlyerTalkers to get the exact time. I think 2 hours should be ok from T1 to T2.

Jenbel Jul 27, 05 7:45 am

I think it's useful to have it here, rather than the Paris airport forum, which I haven't been in in my life. With the merging of AF/KLM, then I would imagine many KLM fliers are going to be using CDG rather more than previously, so it would be useful to have this info somewhere to hand..

Google came up with a goldmine:
http://www1.iata.org/WHIP/_Files/WgI.../MCT%20CDG.doc

Silly times...T1 MCT at 90 minutes! And as I feared MCT of 2hrs between T1 and T2... Overall it makes the airport totally useless for intra-european commuting connections. As a comparison; MCT at AMS is as far as I remember 35 minutes. Similar for other hubs like FRA and MUC.

I'd say for intra-european flight 45min is ok (if you know how to walk). Did that several times. thanks for the link. :) I'll update the thread. 35min for AMS ... seems very short for me.. you can have really long walks at AMS, too.

At CDG I'd say a frequent visitor of the airport would need 45mins within T2 and an hour if doing a terminal change. Within T1 30-45mins should suffice. Sadly MCT is set not by how fast we are able to move about an airport that is a logistical mess, but how fast your average tourist will be able to do it. :(

And the problem is that MCT is what the booking engines will use as a minimum transfer, unless you force it, and then if you loose your connection or luggage you are out of luck.

Agree with Jenbel; at least for the time being, this thread seems well-suited to the newly established FB forum.

Many thanks to chrissxb for all the work.
