You do not need to clear immigration, but you will need to go through security. Overall, short but doable.
Is it 2E to 2E? The Itin says E to F? That is incorrect then?

Apparently, according to Amadeus, AF flights from CDG to HKG currently operate out of 2E.

So if it does end up being E to F, is 1 hour still doable?

Two possibilities :
- you arrive at 2E's main boarding pier: tough, as the airside shuttle bus goes around the CDG2 complex and takes 20mn to reach 2F; doable if you are driven by AF staff from 2E to 2F (and no, you don't have any input here, it is decided by the AF ops centre)
- you arrive at the other 2E boarding pier, S3 : you can walk airside to 2F and 1 hour should be OK.

In retrospect, my flight is booked in paid C, so maybe I could have a little fun with a re-book if I miss my flight connection, no?

Charting it at www.airfrance.us also shows 2E for both.

a) My French is quite rusty so one of my parents, who will already be in Paris, is coming to pick me up at the airport. Should I believe my EI itinerary (cheapest flight!) saying we're landing in Terminal 1, or should I double-check?
EI flights do indeed arrive at CDG1.

Merci. I haven't heard on this board of many airlines that do. (I'll hopefully be at CDG1 in 29 hours.)

The tricky part will be going through immigration without access to the fast track lane, "Acces N1". Walking from the boarding pier to immigration can take up to 15 mn. Once your friend has cleared immigration, she can reach 2D in 10mn. She will need to clear security, again without fast track access. Once she has cleared security, it is a 5mn walk to any gate.

So 65mn is doable, but rather short for my personal comfort if I had to do it.
What gives you access to the "fast track" lane? I'm flying SEA-CDG-FCO in August with a 1hr10 minute layover. Looking at the AF site, it looks like I'm coming into 2E and flying out of 2F and it's telling me that I should take the shuttle (although I'm not really sure why... seems to me that it connects?)

Anyway, I'm flying business class and I also read that if there's less than 45 minutes between flights they will escort you... I guess I'm slightly concerned that I don't have time to make it with the hour 10. But then, I've only ever had this short of a layover either in a small international airport (Fiji) or domestic. And this is my first overseas flight to Europe and I don't speak French so you can imagine I'm a wee bit apprehensive.

Will flying business class get me through the lines a bit faster? (not expected, just a nice perk if it is one!) I know that first class gives you some shorter security lines domestically but I'm not sure how it's handled internationally.

Also, can't I just walk from 2E to 2F or is there a reason they are telling me to get on the shuttle or am I misreading the instructions? (totally possible this is a user error situation! )

Looks like on the way back I have an hour between flights - since I'm traveling on award miles I may not have much option in changing flights. I have a stupid question though... do I have to do customs/immigration in Paris if I am connecting to the US? Sorry for all the stupid questions! I've tried to read most of this thread, honest!

Thanks in advance!

Hi ottergal,

Welcome to FT!

Yes, as a business class passenger, you can use the fast track lanes, labeled as "Acces no 1" at CDG.

As the queues can get quite long trying to get out of 2E, I would recommend taking the shuttle bus to 2F.

Cheers,

Cool! thanks for the quick response! I'll just have to assume that they know what they are doing with connection times (heh) and that with a little help with fact track lanes I'll have time enough to hit a potty!

AF to Czech Airlines Transfer

I've never flown Air France or Czech (or been to CDG).

I'm flying from SEA - CDG (business) on Air France connecting to a Czech flight to Prague with an 1 hr, 20 minute connection. Are these airlines in the same terminal so this should be plenty for a family (and checked baggage) to connect?

Thanks!

Hi ML,

It's totally doable, but it takes some walking. According to the AF website, you will arrive at Terminal 2E, and will depart from 2D. Luggage should make it too.

This means going through Immigration in 2E, and then either taking the shuttle bus outside (which goes 2E -> 2F -> 2D) or walking. It's probably a 10-15 minutes walk. Being in C, you get to use the "Acces no 1" priority lane for immigration (if open or organized). At 2D, there is a ticket/boarding pass check before you can get in to the terminal and through security. (If you plan to use the lounge, beware, it's outside of security.)

It's not a connection I would book if I can avoid it (since I like to have 2 hours at least at CDG), but, you don't always have options.

Cheers,

AZ to AF connection, 2F-2E in CDG

Hi,

I could use some help in figuring out the connection FCO-CDG-SFO. FCO-CDG is on Alitalia, arrives at 2F. CDG-SFO is from 2E.

Sunday

7:00-9:10am FCO-CDG
10:30am CDG-SFO

Connection time is 1:20, so I'd appreciate any tips on making this as fast as possible.

Do we need to pass through immigration in CDG since we are coming out of Schengen area? Where is it / are there any options? Will AZ give us boarding passes for AF flight CDG-SFO in Rome?

Thanks!

The best option is walking from 2F to 2E. Once you have gone through the baggage retrieval area in 2F, walk straight ahead in the Galerie over a set of moving walkways (3mn). Upon arrival in 2E, take the escalators in front of you up one level. You are in front of the immigration booths for departures from 2E.

Yes, in 2E. Once you have gone through immigration, depending on the boarding pier your gate is located in :
- for gates E28 through E47 walk straight ahead to clear security
- for gates E51 through E76, turn left and take the automated shuttle train LISA that runs every 2mn and involves a 45s ride to satellite S3, where you clear security.

Will AZ give us boarding passes for AF flight CDG-SFO in Rome?

Thanks!
No personal experience here.

Enjoy your flights !
