Walk up fare at LHR 189GBP for biz - Who knew?

I was about to check in for LHR-LYS on AF when the boss called and told me to go to Paris instead. So I walked to the ticket desk at LHR T2 and a little sign on the desk said they had a promotional business class return fare to CDG for 189 pounds. I thought this was a great deal and I booked immediately.

But I wonder how these things are advertised? Are they only marketed to AF customers in the UK? I'm US based, but I spend most of my time in Europe and I'd like to know about such deals in advance.

Hey, that was a great fare. What could help would be that you tell us what is the fare code on your ticket (probably not C or J, but a few more letters), that way we may request the fare later if it still exists... About knowing early, if it was not on the UK website (which is reserved by password to UK residents) ...

Just so you guys know, BA are beating this with Ł164 all in and BMI are also offering Ł187 both published and bookable on expedia.co.uk.

Edited to add BA in I class, BMI in J

that's good to know. Are these fares restricted? Are they limited to only a few seats? AF fare is restricted to changes, but it is good even if there is only one seat remaining.

I'm not sure what all those codes mean, but at the bottom it says economy restricted, whereas the fare in question is biz restricted.

Well, when I used to fly "business" class in Europe, it was just full-fare Economy - I think this is still the case, so perhaps that explains the fare description?

YUP-fare

That fare is the same type as all those YUP-fares in the US.... the fare type below is economy restricted, but the booking class is actually discount F or discount Biz.

D class is the 2nd higher Biz booking class on AF (J - D - Z - O).
