Boeing gets order for four 777-200's from AF

Boeing said it won orders for 4 777-200 jets valued at $670 million from AF. The airline exercised options on the jets, which had already been accounted for in the tally of sales published by Boeing. The planes have a list price of about $167.5 million each, though airlines typically get discounts. AF will have 23 of the extended-range 777-200 planes in its fleet by the middle of 2002.

Isn't this the equivalent of Alaska Airlines buying Airbus?

AF has always been divided between Boeing and Airbus. A significant amount of the Executives have been in favor of Boeing, but the French government has naturally been in favor of Airbus. Note the following:
- they have both 737s and A320s
- they have both 777s and A340s
- they have 767s and will have A330s
(all competing aircraft!)
