Air France biz class seating
Flying 777-300 biz class on AF0007 at 6:30 PM. There are limited seats available for 2. I am currently, almost all the way in the back, in row 17 E,F in the center 2 seats. From a service perspective, am I better off moving to seats 3L and 4L? They just became available and we plan on eating and then going to sleep soon after. Would service be better in the front of the cabin?

you said middle seats are E&F, so this most likely will be an old J cabin (BEST cabin) with the P (La Premire) cabin in Row 1.
The middle seats for the new J seats are labelled D&H instead.
Another way to check: if the J cabin starts at Row 3, then that J cabin most definitely is the old BEST J seat.

AF23, AF7, and AF11 are typically P frequencies, so get BEST (i.e. not the new seat). AF14, AF6, and AF10 are the typical P frequencies in the CDG-JFK direction. If booking a JFK flight to try to get the new seat, avoid these flights.
For the dates I sampled, AF15 (dp 1730 from JFK) and AF22 (dp 0830 from CDG) are the frequencies with the new seat.

However, I saw instances with aircraft change, so you never know for sure. The CDG-DXB route on May 25 and May 26 was covered by a 777-300 with the dreaded 2-3-2 NEV4 business cabin after all.
FYI, You can check out here to see which type of J seat you will be getting.

BEST actually doesn't mean BEST as the best seats on that particular setting; it's just how those types of seats are being called.

As far as the seat itself, it's basically the same as the new seat (the door, the electronics, and the extra room in the bulkhead (which likely doesn't matter if you're not a Flying Blue Gold/Platinum) are the differences). There is nothing wrong with BEST (787 version is a bit cramped, but there almost surely isn't a 787 J seat that I wouldn't consider cramped).

I've read that in some 773 configurations row 9 has the best seats, but are reserved for AF elites until 72 hours in advance. Our 773 (AF5) is configured A-EF-L, with rows 3-6 and 9-20, but no 9EF on the seat map. We are now in 11EF. Does this mean 9EF either doesn't exist or are no better than other seats?

Night flight with the intention of sleeping as much as possible. Any better alternatives?

Looks like it. I guess the reason I can't book 9EF (and that those are not better than other J seats) is that they don't exist. https://www.aerolopa.com/af-773-4p. I'll stick to 11EF.
