Interestingly enough, OMAAT highlights AF as the best European catering

https://onemileatatime.com/insights/...usiness-class/

Though dear Ben does not seem to grasp he'd get the same for a two hour plus flight.

If he's comparing it to cold LH meals, maybe.

But he seems to lack perspective. AF is decidedly middle of the pack. LH (and KL) are towards the bottom, LH having the advantage of giving hot catering on at least some routes.

Having recently tried BA, even if only on a 45 minute flights, I would rank them well higher than AF, and I'm a bit sad I can't try them on a longer routing (having heard good things from a surprising number of unrelated sources). And if we are talking on-board service, from LH group, I would say that OS also outclasses AF. Haven't flown LX J so I can't comment on that.

Yes, BA Club Europe meals are usually fairly decent these days, as long as you avoid the dreaded "afternoon tea" slot (i.e. 2pm to 5pm on the shorter flights).

I respectfully disagree with that. Under B. Smith era, we saw on AF side of the force:
- end of Joon adventure
- selection of very good J hard product
- retrofit of COI and NEV4 aircrafts (OK...I know 2 remains to be done)
- more A350 orders, a superb aircraft
- A220 introduction with nice and comfortable cabin interiors
- very good J meals long-haul, especially ex-CDG
- great new lounges or renovations of existing lounges with very good F&B offering.
- crews and ground staff even greater than before
- a very significant improvement of the financials

Of course, nothing is 100% perfect, and there are definitely some downs, but overall, the plus/minus balance is very favorable for AF IMHO.

With great respect but I disagree. AF serve some of the best food in the air these days in my opinion. If there is little variety, what I was served was of excellent quality. The wines and liqueurs were extremely good. I found the crews most pleasant and the J seats in Europe were no better no worse than others. Long Haul was an absolute pleasure. You clearly have your reasons for thinking as you do, but I think that the winds of change have certainly blown at AF and not for the bad.

Got the exact same today CDG-BCN. As usual the cold plate was tasty, and the cold bread inedible.

Good enough for BCN but not for longer flight. And if you dont eat shrimps you stay hungry. Not having a choice is just too lazy and it seems AF crews have forgotten how to operate ovens. Bread used to be warm not anymore. How can other airlines in Europe have better bread (and for longer routes better Business Class services) than AF is mind blowing.

I can report that ovens were working today on AMS-CDG and bread was warm.
Main course was a creamy polenta with some mushrooms. Quite adequate.

yes good for AMS-CDG. Not good enough for Athens, Tunis, Yerevan, Casablanca, etc competition does much better. Just lazy and lame from AF.

AF1440 on 2nd. of march.
Really tasteful meal. I was really happy to chose AF and avoid the horrible meal on KL on that route.

Food was below average.

I would say the short-haul meals are average, compared to US carriers on similar length flights (2.5h). I would have appreciated some meat/fish, meals that are vegetarian and served cold are not that appealing (to me at least).
I am happy I decided to fly Finnair instead of AF on my last CDG-HEL in Business.

Very tasty hot breakfast, cold cuts and fresh fruits. Confirms that AF business Class on longer routes is just crap.
