I had this 24-09-2023 CDG-WAW. Terrible, cold quinoa. Luckily the bread was warm, so could make a cheese sandwich and I loved the chocolate cake.

Rather tasty (cold) meal: buckwheat crepe and yogurt with berries.

Also far better than anything we had in the long haul flight.

No, LH is based on the competition on the route. There are no such bands and it is by destination. MAD would have a hot meal and an even longer ES route would just be cold. MUC-FAO is just a cold salad but LIS would be hot, to compete with TP.

well at the least they are competing on some routes. AF/KL are happy with this mediocre offering and some of their passengers too!

Just a reminder of what is currently going on in European economy class:

Tea with vegetarian sandwich

Which is better than BA's miniscule bag of crisps and a tiny water. Tea would be at a charge....

And this was on the flight from Billund BLL to Paris CDG, block time 1h50. A choice of vegetarian sandwich or ham roll with Viennese bread:

Same rotation as the pics posted before.

CDG-CMN
AF1596

Airbus A320
Meal: lunch

Food was ok, but I found the chocolate cake a bit too sweet and decadent for me.

CMN-CDG
AF1497

Airbus A319
Meal: breakfast

Food was below average.

I would say the short-haul meals are average, compared to US carriers on similar length flights (2.5h). I would have appreciated some meat/fish, meals that are vegetarian and served cold are not that appealing (to me at least).

Those are economy class meals, from just a few score years ago (but after the year 2000). They're more or less ok, sort of, but they are definitely not a business class product.

It is very difficult for AF cabin crews to use ovens as compared to other airlines.

Some pics of a pure FTer itinerary…

STR-CDG (mid-afternoon)
small piece of chicken-mayonnaise but good ! Except cold bread…

CDG-AMS (late afternoon)
Hot bread for this flight, served twice! Still good, but the apple pie was not that tasty.

No bottle of water offered as welcome drink, but a macaron for the 90th birthday of AF.

AMS-KRK (evening)
wonderful KLM box supposed to make you feel like a valuated guest

Wow, look like AF crews have forgotten how to use the ovens even for bread...

Cdg-cph also had the regular choice of vegetarian or « chicken » (more accurately a thin slice of « chicken ham » of sorts and some Boursin or equivalent. Soft or hot drink or beer or wine.
