Booking a multi-destination itinerary in regular economy vs. light

Does anyone know how to book a multi-destination itinerary on the Air France website in Regular (as opposed to Basic/Light) economy?

When booking a one-way or a round-trip flight, it provides the option of "economy" or "economy with changes". But on a multi-destination or open-jaw itinerary I only have the options for economy, premium or business. And all the economy searches default to the basic / econo light fare with no option to upgrade or change it prior to booking.

Anyone found a workaround? Trying to book an open-jaw trip to Europe from Canada and there doesn't seem to be any way to do this.

(ETA: Tried this on the KLM website also, same problem.)

AFAIK basic economy fares are RT.

Nope. The most restrictive booking conditions (0 checked bags, no changes, no cancellations) are being automatically applied to multi-destination trips with no option to change it.

I can second this problem -- I recently priced out a hypothetical JFK-CDG, LHR-JFK multi-leg trip and also couldn't find any way to pick less restrictive booking conditions either. Hoping that others have figured out how to work around it!

Could you perhaps try to call AF and ask them to quote it for you with modifiable fare? If it’s possible, they should be able to do it.

Update: I found what seems to be the only workaround at the moment: Booking via the Delta website.

Yes indeed. This where they will tell you that they must charge a service fee (read the thread "https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-france-klm-other-partners-flying-blue/1990865-platinum-line-will-soon-charge-service-fee-all-tickets-they-issue-even-those-n.html" ).

True. I imagine that booking with an OTA would be easier and less expensive.

Hi,

I’m reviving this thread since I have the opposite problem.
Trying to leverage an Amex offer with AF/KL by booking JFK>LHR and then KEF>JFK in basic economy this August.

I’m seeing a very attractive fare for that routing, coded either as KL or AF on Google flights, Kayak, ITA matrix and Expert Flyer.
DL and VS websites let me go through to the booking page, so do third party OTA (on 057 stock), but not AF or KL. I either get a glitch and get sent back to the search page or KL will only show me the standard fare.

On a previous booking I had managed to get around that by going through Kayak but it’s not working this time. I’ve tried calling twice but the pricing they give me for light is higher than what I see for standard online.

I’m considering going all the way until payment on the KL website (getting the PNR but not paying for it) and calling to see if they can manually downgrade to light over the phone, but I doubt it will work.

I’m running out of ideas and wondering if anyone has found a way around this IT issue for multi city bookings before. Thanks in advance
