AF430 Sep 6th diverted?

Anyone knows what happened to flight AF430 CDG SJO? it says it was diverted to PTY and it only got to SJO today. AF431 SJO CDG was delayed until today as a result.

It looks like it flew to PTY, held at 8000ft for about 15-20 minutes and then diverted to PTY.

That looks like being unable to land at the destination, probably due to weather reasons. Although there doesn't seem to be any weather event at the time...

Is it really a diversion to PTY if it was already at PTY?

Fabo probably meant it flew to San Jose, could not land, then diverted to PTY. That is indeed what you see for the flight on Flightradar - a few circles at San Jose before moving on to PTY. I have no clue about the problem in San Jose. https://www.flightradar24.com/data/f...af430#21fe3857

The reason of the diversion was bad weather conditions in SJO (storms).

Yep that is it. You see on Flightradar and the airport site that other arriving flights were diverted or delayed too around that time, e.g. ZRH-SJO diverted to Liberia
https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-tracker/arrivals/SJO/?year=2019&month=9&date=6&hour=12
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/f.../wk36#21fe4199

The Edelweiss flight managed to land in SJO in the end around 20 pm (as opposed to the 18 pm scheduled local time), and while this led to a delayed return flight, in the end the damage in ZRH was just one hour. Much less disruptive for passengers and flight operations as the solution used by AF430 - but then, they will have had good reasons to choose PTY as diversion.

AFKL has ops in PTY due to daily flights there. Probably a good place to arrive, rather than an airport where no staff/contracts are in place to handle such diverted flight.

You are probably right. Edelweiss was lucky that very soon after they landed in Liberia, weather in San Jose was apparently good enough to move to SJO with just 2 hours delay. If the bad weather would have lasted longer, pilots would probably have maxed out their legal flying time, and in that case being stuck at an airport where you have no ground staff to support booking pax to hotels etc. obviously is drama. PTY probably also is a much better place to reroute passengers whose final destination was not SJO.
