NOTE ON GETTING OLCI OFFER ON OAL ORIGINATING:
If the AF LP flight segment is down line from your originating segment operated by another airline which forces you to use the OAL’s checkin system, you can manually use the AF website to check-in for the downline AF flight and still get the offer. For example, GRU-MEX-CDG sold as AM14 / AM 6103 (operated as AF179), you can checkin via AM as usual. Before or after, go to the AF website for the currency you want to pay for the upgrade in. Check-in using just your PNR / Lastname and the AF flight number you want to check-in for. It will allow a mid-trip check-in and will offer the LP upgrade if eligible.

Layover is relatively short this time: 2 hours. But it's enough time for me to get the SPA treatment and some food / wine

Offer for CDG to IAD tomorrow was $1434. If it was a little less or my connection long enough to use the lounge, I might take it. Seat map currently showing F is empty.

Flew P with a relatively short layover: 2 hrs. Inbound flight (from PRG) landed on time. Was just right enough but only if you're the type who can keep it calm - got a lovely beef, champagne and the facial treatment. Still had time for coffee + something sweet. Only thing was that the meal on the plane - had to take it slow but you have plenty of time for that. So would see it that "2 hrs" is my minimum lounge time from a European connection and "3 hrs" from overseas (shower time), since I don't feel like spending hours in the lounge doing just the usual stuff on computer etc. . Also I got second PJs for my wife

btw. if you upgrade through "my booking" and not during OLCI, you'll get full XP for P segment (i.e. 60 XP for the segment (+30 XP for the promo)). Closing on for PFL So I guess no need to wait all the way until OLCI for offers now? The upgrade was there about a week before takeoff.

Unless I am mistaken, what you call an upgrade through MMB is not an upgrade but you paid the fare difference to P and so your new ticket is a P one with all the associated benefits including XPs from P. It's different from the paid upgrade option at OLCI, where your ticket remains a J one.

There was this "upgrade your seat" button on both AF and KLM sites that I have used to upgrade from J -> P. Not sure it's paying the fare difference actually: usually changing J to P via "change flight" just a week in advance costs like >$10k, no? It certainly was more than $2500 at the time of booking (in January), I remember checking price difference between J and P.

Can we ask you how much did you pay for the "upgrade" and what was your original fare and fare letter for the J booking ?
Maybe it's a new feature they are introducing, like DL, when you can upgrade at any time between booking and flight date. That would be nice.

I dug up the reservation e-mails. Original RT SFO-AMS-PRG -> PRG-CDG-SFO (short haul is J, long haul is I fare) was $4200 (don't see per-segment breakdown). There was no P offered on this very flight was scheduled on B772 without P at the time of booking (flight AF082), now the other flight I could take that had P but was priced way more than $2000. Upgrade on CDG-SFO was $1800 from I fare to F fare and it was for the last P seat. When trying a week before it said no upgrades available. Looking into a dummy booking say in August, price difference between PRG-CDG-SFO segment on the same flight between J and F is about $2080 so it does look like DL style upgrade.

The "upgrade your seat" button was in the extra section in my booking and showed on both AF / KLM website. Currently I have one more booking for December which is in miles, but that one doesn't show the upgrade my seat button.

Yes - and I would have taken it had I had time to visit the lounge. By the way, it also offered the upgrade for 143,000 miles. If I had taken it, I probably would have done miles. I wonder if it was because La Premiere was empty - and it went out empty (I peeked in and checked).

Very interesting. Thanks for having shared the details. I rarely look at my bookings on the website (I do it mostly on the apps where this feature is not proposed). I should look at the web site more often

Just to report back, upgraded to La Premier for LHR-CDG-DXB for £900 (data point for the pinned post for reference). Transit for 5 hours was just enough to absorb what the amazing lounge has to offer. Indeed, the best first class there is.

Quick question :

I do have a flight from ABJ to CDG and CDG to YUL.
I do have La premiere offer on the first segment. I arrive to CDG at 6 am and I have a 12 hours transit time. I am wondering, if I will have the ground service from la premiere lounge to the plane of my second flight. However this route does not have la premiere but I will be in business class.

Thanks

Yes, you will have P ground services in CDG.
