The future of the 787 at AF

Hi

a few weeks ago, I read that all the 787s would go to KLM and that AF fleet of 787s would stay at 7 planes.
Finally, AF received in April their 8th and 9th 787s...

Did they change their mind once again?

Not necessarily. I answered this question in the other thread. The recent delivery and the coming one were very likely in a too advanced stage of AF personalization when AFKL decided about who will get what.

In fact, I made a check and I stand corrected about the 2 recent deliveries of B787 (this info was coming from an info I had about 2 deliveries in April). After checking, only one was delivered on 24/04 (F-HRBH).

And the next one (F-HRBI) is obviously slightly delayed. It is still making test flights in CHS so I believe it will be delivered soon. And it seems indeed that it will be the last one to be delivered to AF.

I will edit my other post to reflect this.

What a shame.
AF needs their 15 787s.
They are perfect A343s replacements.
and the A359 are perfect replacements for the 772s.

I hope they will get the 779

Wait and see. For once, we have a AFKL CEO that is willing to challenge decisions from the past to make more sense.

clearly, and I believe this decision (if confirmed) makes a lot of sense.

More B787 will follow once the A330 are living the fleet in 8-10 years from now. The A350 will replace the A340 and the A380 leaving the fleet. They will grow overall capacity and maybe start to replace a few B772 for the last one to arrive.

F-HRBI has just been delivered to AF. It landed in CDG 3 hrs ago (i.e. Saturday May 18).

Instead of refurbishing the A330s, AF should have got ridden of them and replace them with brand new 787s

The A330 is a very efficient and well-designed aircraft. Their oldest ones are 17.5 y.o.(the 2 first deliveries were in the very last days of 2001), so it was making full sense to refurbish them at that stage. They are too young to be scrapped and they are still very well suited for some routes AF is flying.
