HOP! becomes Air France HOP

It may come as no surprise following the demise of Joon and the speculation the last few days, but Hop will evolve and become Air France HOP instead of dissapearing completly.

Looking much better now.

I like what BS is doing so far, this makes a lot more sense.
Hopefully, he will be able to get Transavia under a single group and stop the silly difference between Transavia FR and NL.

I'm waiting to see the fleets decisions which will come next as the single-aisle fleets of both KLM, KLC, AF and AF Hop will need to see orders placed.

There’s still AF COI though....

I always knew that Hop ! was the AF subsidiary, didn't find it that confusing. I've flown them a LOT being based in Germany.

I hope the LYS direct routes stay though, so folks in France don't always have to fly somewhere else via Paris.

As European flyer to France, you were aware of it. But I can assure you that most of my Asian friends were shocked that their AF tickets included flights on other companies (HOP! and Joon) without references to AF anymore. While HOP! had moved from the name "HOP! Air France" to "HOP!", "HOP! Air France" was still retained abroad to try to minimize confusion:
https://www.airfrance.com.hk/HK/en/c..._airfrance.htm

We have moved full cycle from "HOP! Air France" to "HOP" and "Air France HOP" (no ! anymore).

So far, it is only a name change. But rumors suggest the quick disappearance of A5 code and even of the HOP! website (with a direct link to the main AF website).
It makes so much sense.

One step closer to the destruction of terminal 2G for Ben Smith's new S5 at CDG. :D

But I like the ! branding on their jets........:p It's cool.

(And the abililty to fly point-to-point in France without needing to go via Paris.)

no. Just a separate service protocol for flights to certain destinations. But AF flights.

Exactly. There is no problem having a regional subsidiary operating thin routes with smaller airplanes, either point-to-point routes or hub-feeder routes and Hop made a lot of sense to merge the 3 former regional carriers (Airlinair, BritAIr and Regional). But what become very confusing for customers was when they created the A5-marketing code and Hop by AF, then AF by Hop then Hop by Hop and I don't know what else. Also when AF mainline domestic routes like La Navette routes became Hop but operated by AF planes & crew. No one understood all this mess and even AF people were not able to explain it to me :D
All those changes made by BS are full of good sense

We'll of course let Zembla explain ;), but I am guessing that this is another example of AF product that is not understood by customers. One understood the initial concept of the COI service on the ORY-DOM/TOM routes, characterized by a very high traffic at low yield. But then we had over the years this COI config & service on other "mainline" routes like BKK, LIM, CUN, YUL leading to very weird situations :
- YUL served by several daily flights : if I take flight AF XXX, I have the classical full service but if I take the next AF YYYY flight, I have a degraded service. Hardly understandable, knowing that the price is the same between the 2 flights
- BKK (not anymore served by COI but it was still the case recently) : if I fly to BKK, I have a degraded service, but if I fly to nearby SGN (same price), I have the full AF service. How can this be justified ?
This is just another inconsistency.

As a reference, here is a thread I started 6 years ago  on this subject, and we are still debating about the same problem !

AF Hop - A5 -> AF coding - Other ST FFP miles accrual?

Hi,

Seems that the Canadian got the point, hopefully A5 flights will be only AF coded soon and flights will be eligible for segments accrual on other ST FFP + STE+ benefits available.
Would be a motivation to fly out from PRG to any other FR provincial airport rather than commuting by CDG 😀
