Air France young fares and youth passes
I recently booked a one-way CPH-CDG-TLS on AF. When I booked on the AF website, I accurately chose "Young (18 - 24 years)" for the "Passenger details" dropdown, and was offered an inexpensive "Flex Young" fare. On the electronic ticket, "(Youth / Jeune)" is printed by my name.
Later, I discovered the existence of the "Air France Hop! Youth Pass", which costs 49 euros a year and apparently entitles the carrier to use Youth fares. When one attempts to book a flight beginning in France (e.g. CDG-CPH) as a "Young (18 - 24 years)" passenger, a pop-up alert says, "To benefit from the youth rate, you must travel with an Air France HOP! Youth Pass that is valid on your travel date and be ready to present it at the airport".
However, if you try to book a flight beginning outside of France, e.g. my own CPH-CDG-TLS, no such warning appears. Similarly, the website for the Youth Pass includes the claim "For flights in France, the Youth pass is obligatory to enjoy Youth fares and should be shown at the airport." ("In France" is not defined.) Are "Youth" and "Young" fares the same thing? If so, is it correct to deduce that the Youth Pass is only required for Youth/Young fares on flights beginning in France, but not those beginning elsewhere? I am happy to buy the pass if necessary, but I don't want to do so before confirming that it's actually required for my flights. Air France support is so far non-responsive.

IMO, this is the same and the subscription card is mandatory, whatever airport you are starting from.
But it seems very poorly executed, as per your description.
