flight AF 006 on Jun. 12 18

at what time is leaving the flight? when booking a ticket its showing 13:35, & by checking the flight status its showing planned at 14:45, not delayed, so what is the correct time?

af fp Jun 11, 2018 6:55 pm

It looks like for that one day there has been a schedule change... I am curious why. I flew AF006 a few days ago and the scheduled departure time was 13:35. And on June 13 it is 13:35 too. You get to spend one more hour in Paris! Hopefully it does not complicate your plans.

For those who haven't memorized the AF schedule, this is an afternoon service CDG-JFK.

Today it shows as operating 1:20 late xCDG (15:50 actual, 14:30 scheduled).

flight ended up leaving more than 3 hours late, AF wont allow to change it or cancel, since their policy to allow changes only on 5 hours delay.

lesson learned not to book AF any more.

Out of curiosity what was the reason for the delay?

travel agent Jun 12, 2018 10:30 am

the first hour was a schedule change, the further delay was mechanical

In my limited experience, the A380 flights to and from JFK are usually late. I book them with the expectation that I will get more time to relax in the lounge and in my seat. And I try and avoid short connections!

Fine. If you stop booking airlines that have flight delayed, it just means you won’t fly anymore.

Indeed, and the block time for this flight from AF takes this into account. If one looks at the history, A380 flights from CDG to JFK take off one hour late but are landing on time.
And on OP's flight, indeed, the flight took off with >3h delay but landed with only a 2h delay.

How many airlines *would* allow you to override the fare conditions of your ticket for a mere 3 hour delay on a longhaul flight?

Maybe a better strategy would be to book a ticket with the degree of flexibility you require ;-)

the problem is not the delay, just the flexibility when there is a delay.

ALL the airlines I flew in the past, are allowing free changes & refunds for 2 hour delay / schedule change & some airlines even for a hour, if i book a ticket to arrive at a specific time, I am planning meetings according to the aprox. arrival time, & i don`t expect the airline to change the time by up to 4:45 with no changes allowed, or if i choose a connecting flight with a short connection, i don`t expect to wait up to 4:55 longer.

so next time if i need to fly with AF, should i fly a day earlier to ensure that i will arrive on time for the occasion?

If I need to be somewhere on a certain date, and it involves longhaul travel, I always plan to be there the day before. As, I thought, most people would - depending on how important it was to be there on time.

Which airline(s)? And was this a long time ago or not so long ago?

plenty of airlines, will show you a few examples, for all my years of travelling, nothing has changed recently

Air Canada
https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...ellations.html

In the case of an extended delay to an Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge or Air Canada Express flight which is expected to last:
  • 2 hours or more:
    • You can change your reservation at no cost by choosing a new departure date within 7 days of your original travel date. If you change your departing flight, you can also, at the same time, choose a new return flight to match the same length of stay, if necessary.

Lufthansa
https://www.lufthansa.com/cmn/en/ter...onditions-2#10

10.2.1.
If we cancel a flight, fail to operate a flight reasonably according to schedule, fail to stop at your destination or Stopover, or cause you to miss a connecting flight which you hold a reservation, the amount of the refund shall be:
10.2.1.1.
if no portion of the Ticket has been used, an amount equal to the fare paid,
United
https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...e-changes.html

If your scheduled departure or arrival time changes by 30 minutes or more, we're happy to try to find other available flight options that meet your needs
Swiss
https://www.swiss.com/il/en/terms-co...age/article-09

Should we make a significant change to the scheduled flight time after you have purchased your Ticket, the new time is not acceptable to you and we are unable to book you on an alternative flight which is more acceptable to you, you will be entitled to a refund
American
https://www.aa.com/i18n/customer-ser...rvice-faqs.jsp

We do not refund nonrefundable American Airlines tickets except when the ticket is cancelled within 24 hours of purchase, when we make a schedule change that results in a change of 61 minutes or more,
can you show 1 other airline that requires 5 hours?

q Jun 14, 2018 6:21 am

Very interesting. Let's see

Air Canada:
- definition of "extended delay" ?

Lufthansa:
- "reasonably" according to schedule (who has the final say what is reasonable?)

United:
- "happy to try"

Swiss
- "significant schedule change"

American
- "_schedule_ change of more than 1 hour"

Do you have real experience with being re-routed or re-funded by one of these airlines, for a small delay?
