Alc, fao, agp, vlc

Several new routes to Spain & Portugal announced for next summer. All one weekly and saturday only. For AGP and VLC, the routes are already served by UX in code-share with AF. But with only one weekly flight for each of those new destinations, it's not very convenient.

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38...ork-additions/

Air France on Tuesday (22OCT19) announced European routes addition for summer 2020, scheduled once weekly. From Paris CDG, the Skyteam member plans to introduce service to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Valencia. Most routes were previously served by the airline in the last 30 years.

Paris CDG – Alicanteeff 04APR20 1 weekly HOP! Embraer E190 (AF last served this route from Paris CDG in Summer 1981 as seasonal flights, 2 weekly 727/A300. Paris Orly – Alicante operated during summer season 1982 – 1989)
AF9416 CDG1535 – 1750ALC E90 6
AF9417 ALC1840 – 2100CDG E90 6

Paris CDG – Faroeff 04APR20 1 weekly A320
AF9418 CDG0650 – 0835FAO 320 6
AF9419 FAO0925 – 1315CDG 320 6

Hmm, I gues once a week could work well for the holidaying crowd, especially package tours... but then I would expect ORY...

Anyway wonder what the prices will be. Valencia is nice and A318 is always a rare treat for an avgeek.

A318 is also unconfortable with the old cabin and soggy, non-reclining seats

AFAIK, this would be AF’s only « international » flight from ORY (except DOM/TOM flights that are technically to France and one to JFK). Does someone know if that’s part of a new strategy to increase international flights from ORY for AF? It seems they didn’t remove flights from CDG so that would be additional frequencies only. Perhaps they have a hard time actually filling Aigle Azure slots .

Probably a combination.
They need to fill slots. And the domestic market is dwindling.
AF faces huge competition on MAD. IB has 6 flights from ORY.. UX has four. TO has three. They need to regain some market share.
Wonder if they will use the awful domestic non-reclining seats of the domestic fleet.

They will. A318s have them and A319s used on domestic flights as well.

Iberia has just adquired Air Europa for 1 billion EUR.
I guess that is why AF is adding ORY-MAD flights. I wonder what will happen to UX CDG flights to Valencia and Malaga...

IAG, rather than Iberia, acquired UX (despite the El Pais headline) but, yes, I suspect that you are right that AF's decision to start ORY-MAD is linked to that.

And they also announced VLC, but only once weekly. Clearly, this is all linked to this announcement. I expect that they may start some more services from CDG to those Spanish destinations. But it s also possible that UX will retain some form of collaboration with AF (a simple code-share agreement on a few routes), even if out of Skyteam.
