Major capacity cuts to BOS?

So first I heard that from April onwards, they will be downsizing to the 787 from a 777.

Then I just happened to look at flight schedules and in June/July next yr I saw only one flight.

Goldorak Aug 6, 2017 3:58 pm

I just made dummy bookings for may and June and still see 2 flights a day :
- one DL flight
- one AF flight on a 77W (while the 777 frequency this year was a 772)

so for the 3rd flight (the 2nd AF) which was an A332, either they suppress this flight with the increase of capacity from the 772 to 77W, or all schedules may have not been finalized yet and loaded in the GDS in a year from now.

Does 772 + A332 = 77W? (Seat capacity wise)

And I looked up AF schedules to a few other US cities. JFK has got 4, SFO has got 2, ATL has 2. LAX has 2-3.... just like this summer.

Oh and as I was typing, this popped into mind:

Could the frequency reduction be a result of Norwegian's entry into the CDG-BOS market?

FlyerWx Aug 6, 2017 8:09 pm

The 77W that flies BOS-CDG has 381 seats

The 772 that flies BOS-CDG has 316 seats, and the A332 has 208 seats.

There definitely seems to be a decrease in capacity (even in S16 DL flew a 764 and now fly a 763). I've never flown this route in the summer, but I'm wondering if it commands the capacity and premium that a 772+332 bring.

Maybe it's because of Norwegian, or maybe AF wants to wait a bit to finalize a third flight -- if they ever do.

Has there been decrease in demand recently on this route? I thought CDG was one of BOS's most busiest routes?

According to the Air France website, it's happening with the start of the winter timetable in October. At that time, the flight goes from twice weekly to 6 times weekly...so would appear to give a huge increase in capacity.

Edited to add: Air France's second flight, AF321, appears to operate for the final time on Sunday 10 September.

Indeed, as I posted in the B789 thread, the introduction of the Dreamliner to BOS is for the winter season.

No decrease in demand IMO. For what it worths, I just flown a round trip to BOS (on the 772 flight), and it was packed all classes. Remenber that the DL-operated flight is not old, was first seasonal with a 757 and then was upgraded year-round and with a 767 during the summer. Either the 3rd summer flight is not loaded yet or they considered it was a bit too much capacity for some days and prefer be back to 2 daily as just 2 or 3 years ago and with a bigger plane (77W). If they are sticking with 2 daily during summer with one DL B767 and one AF B77W, we'll be very similar as what we had recently when the route was flown 2X/day by AF with a 744 and an A332.

I'm a bit confused as to what you're saying. Doesn't AF333/334 operate every day throughout the year rather than 2x weekly?

https://aviability.com/flight-number...333-air-france

I believe it is AF321 that goes on < daily freq (Until it stops operating)

Oh ok that makes sense. @irishguy18, you can ignore that last post I quoted you in

I kind of doubt that considering that frequencies to other cities (SFO, JFK, LAX, ATL) in June, July 2018 are seem to be just as they are this summer according to AF website and google flights.

According to the schedule on the AF website (http://www.airfrance.us/US/en/local/...es/horaires.do) AF333 operates only twice weekly from today until the start of the winter timetable at the end of October.

I think this timetable is wrong. Making dummy bookings in august show the A332- operated flight everyday but Tuesday.

And I just read that the seasonal AA B757 service BOS-CDG will not come back next summer.

What's with AA's CDG cuts? I also heard that one of their JFK flights will also not be returning next summer

yes, true. You can see this also with the same link I have posted.
Personally, it's an airline I dislike a lot and avoid as much as I can.
