How about going the other way? Landing in JFK from La Premiere to a Delta connection. Would there be access to the Premiere room at the AF lounge? Or is the glamour over and one is sent on his or her way to the Delta terminal?

Upon arrival you'd have to go through immigration and customs. You should be escorted all the way through and to the DL gate or DL lounge. As DL is in a different terminal I don't see how you could access the AF lounge.

any recent data points? Still true? Can't believe that I booked AF again after so many years ... but it was a good price So Airtrain or walk to T1 and then ask at the check-in counter for an escort?

I went thru T1 a few weeks ago on JAL. There is a newly constructed VIP security room at the back of the JAL check in area.

Don’t get too excited. It’s not separate VIP security. It’s just a room at the front of regular security that makes it slightly less obvious you’re cutting the line.

JAL does not provide escort. La Premiere did provide escort when I went thru there a few months ago. Which was before this VIP room opened. When I asked the attendant in the room, she indicated AF still provided an escort and that person would take you thru the same VIP room.

So you can either stop at AF counter and request escort. Or else at the very least, find the VIP room and show them your boarding pass. It’s directly back of JAL check in area. To the left if you’re facing the security line. Not very well marked.
