Economy seats will no longer be assigned for free before check-in

Starting December 1st, Air France will start introducing a new policy, making Economy class passengers pay for any seat selection on long-haul flights.

Deployment details are not yet disclosed, but the first targeted destinations will be in Asia, COI or LATAM.

FB Platinum/Gold/Silver and SkyMiles Diamond/Platinum/Gold/Silver members and companions (same PNR) will have these new fees waved.

Details here (in French)

A new "enhancement" introduced at the same time for KL and AF
I particularly liked
Pourquoi AF KL change sa politique de choix du siège en classe Economy ?
Afin de répondre à la majorité des demandes et attentes clients, AF & KLM ont décidé de modifier la façon dont les réservations de siège en cabine Economy sont effectuées.
What a BS...

Goodness me.

In my professional life I am also right now experiencing how creative marketing people can be in evaluating consumer/costumer feed back.

I wonder what these people have for breakfast.

I'm not so sure they do ask for feedback, I'm convinced they look at Ryanair and see their customers then say to themselves "we have to copy"

I'm sure they're learning a lot from Delta. Check out the discussion around seat selection for "Comfort+" (extra leg room seats), where Delta has made the process "easier". Instead of the complicated process of selecting the Comfort+ seat you want at booking by (1) clicking on it, you instead now (1) complete your booking with a regular seat selection, (2) request "Upgrade to Comfort+", (3) wait for inventory to be released, (4) get email that tells you your upgrade has been processed, (5) log back in and fix your seat assignment since the computer probably gave you a middle seat. See? "Easier"!

Well, if only it was directly more profitable to treat the customer better.

And they are wondering why ME3 and Asian carriers have success.
Not one second of regret having quit FB.

The joys of family travel with different PNRs have just increased

AF: en complément des familles réservées sur un seul dossier de réservation
(PNR), AF pré-assignera également les PNR qui auraient été splités en plusieurs
dossiers, grâce à la remarque « AXR »
That has proven to be 100% inefficient.

Skyteam Elite and Elite + will have to pay, so much for the Alliance

Next step: a special fee to have a see during long haul flight

One silver lining for DL PMs and DMs is that the types of special AF seats that are free have increased to now include the seats at the front of the cabin, the duo and upperdeck duo seats*. In the past I've been told by AF reps that only the Seats Plus were free for DM/PMs. It's rough for the rest of the Skyteam Elites though. For those interested, all of this outlined on page 11 of the above-linked PDF.

* I see there's exception due to a technical limit when booking through Amadeus -- that's not what DL uses when you book an AF flight through them, right?

As a PE member I quite like these changes. If I book a seat late (and provided EC is full), the chance of getting a decent aisle seat has increased ^

This is a big sh*t !

And when i check the destinations for the 1st phase : Pointe a Pitre,Cayenne,Fort de France,Antananarivo , Curacao , Aruba , Bonaire , Saint Martin and La Reunion ????

When its about to introduce the new cabins , they just forget about these parts of the world ....... but a new way of making money , yes of course !

And even now , AF/KL is selling safety raw's seats as comfort on european flights !! Lol ! Maybe they changed since 2013 but are LH,LX or TK doing the same also ?

Am i the only one to think that overhead compartments are full in european flights with AF/KL since their new policies about luggages ??

It reminds me the style of FR/W9/DY , but without the cheap prices and crazy sales . Do they know in AF/KL that people don't have any obligation to fly with them ?

Based on the majority of feedback, and on customer demand, they can eat s**t!!!
