Transform 2015 influence over [long-haul] on-board services
Thanks to the SNPNC union, we know a little bit more about on-board services changes induced by Transform 2015 :
http://www.snpnc.org/sites/default/f...ompopeq-lc.pdf
Main changes :
- Less CCs on long haul (one less on A380, A340, 777 COI)
- For P/J classes, no big changes for staffing. In P, the "1 PNC for 5 PAX" rule doesn't really change but applies for booked flights. Assumption : op-ups will impact the service for revenue passengers so they may be even scarcer.
- In W/Y, the crew covers both cabins instead of being specialised (so that 1 FA is made redundant). However, on-board offer remains a bit differenciated.
- Main differences are in Y :
* The 2 stage service in Y is replaced by a 1 stage service. I'm not sure but this could mean the removal of the drink service before meal.
* The "rear galley FA" supporting its colleagues would diseappear. Logically enough, trolleys should be prepared more easily so the choice of drinks is to be reduced
* Trays sould be disposable at 2/3. So don't expect a better meal presentation or even "real" cuttlery.
* SPML are to be "simplified" and only 15 A la carte meals per may be booked.

Not everything is clear in their presentation. E.g. on meals, they move from 1 full tray hot and 1 2/3 tray hot to "1 full tray hot, 2 for flights over 8h30", of which I am not clear if it is means a second hot meal on flights over 8h30 or moving down to a single meal on flights below 8h30 or both.
Note the reduction of P cabins if I read their explainations correctly (disappears on 772, reduced to 4 on 77W). BTW, not sure what's the point of a protocol that mentioned "2 Pnc's in P for flights with 6-12 P Pax" when no AF cabin has more than 9 P pax!!

For the meals AF currently serves 1 hot meal in a full tray and 1 cold meal or snack in either 1/4 or 2/3 tray. With the Transform 2015 it will be 2 hot meals in 2/3 trays for both meals, for flights above 8h30mns. All disposable crockery. No choice for the second hot meal.

Thanks. And will it become, then, a single hot meal on flights under 8h30 or remain 1 hot + 1 cold but with a reduced 2/3 tray for the main meal? Thanks again! On paper, it sounds like a small improvement although of course a second 'hot meal' could be a hot slice of pizza or something similarly miserable...

It will be 1 hot meal and a cold meal or snack as is now for flights under 8h30 and for flights above that and under 10h30 it will be a something hot on a 2/3 tray like a pizza or panini or else with the usual yogurt.fruit salad etc... for flights above 10h30 it'll be a hot dish.

Thanks a lot, now all clear!! So it does sound like a small improvement. I imagine that the move from full tray to 2/3 tray for the first service will mean smaller dessert and starter portions, perhaps of the main too (probably not of the little piece of pre-wrapped Camembert I would guess)

I don't believe they will shrink the size of the portions, just check the full trays next time and you will notice that there are a lot of lost space. That's why they'll go to a 2/3 tray, every items will be packed on the smaller tray. Also this will allow AF to remove crew members from the planes.
Just one thing that I do not understand: why does the use of a tray only 2/3 the size of the current one allow for the removal of crew members from the planes? How does the size of the tray impact the amount of work?

Less carts to move around. As of now a cabin attendant would serve 1 to 2 carts of full trays. 1 cart contains 28 trays, 14 on each side. With a 2/3 tray, a cart would contain 42 trays. On a 777-200ER with 250Y seats that means 6 cart or crew in Y class and there are 7 as of now...
