Yes great story. And it is true. When I do get an AF op-up it is something very special. Can't say the same for the 1000 upgrades I have had on US carriers. Upgrades are always nice of course, but nicer when it is completely unexpected and rare.

I flew CDG-LAX recently and biz looked zeroed out. So I was hoping for a upgrade to P, but in the end there were about 6 empty biz seats. And only a single person in P!

Nice story, I wish someone would offer me a nice job during an airplane trip :)

It would also be nice if the crew offered all the holidaying colleagues, their family and friends a temporary job helping out serving passengers in the cabin rather than distracting the crew from doing their proper job.

You're some kind of a dreamer MichielR, aren't you :D

FYI, tale heard 100 times, I was of course not upgraded.

What is most unpleasant in such an instance is not the fact that there was no upgrade (upgrade is never guaranteed and any frequent flyer, especially with AF knows that), but the attitude of the staff.

A "sorry", a smile, any sign of sympathy would have been nice.

On the contrary, I think the guy looked almost pleased. True that upgrades at AF are given in priority to friends and family, so he would see a FF as competition for their perks rather than a customer that AF should try to please from time to time.

One of the joys of flying AF, isn't it?

Assume that you did not get upgraded on the way back???

Let me illustrate your comments by an opposite story.

I flew with my wife on CX CDG-HKG last December with a J award (both of us). But, we fly that route two or three times a year on CX, usually in F. The F check-in post was manned by an ADP agent (I mean the staff they outsource) with a CX staff standing next to her (he turned out to be the assistant supervisor and I had never met him). He hailed us by name before we handed out the tickets. I mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary (true and many, many years) and that we often flew on CX F, could they upgrade us? It turns out that he had carefully studied the manifest in the morning and somehow knew our travel pattern (although we are BAEC). I expected an answer like "sorry, but award, fully booked, blabla...), but he gracefully said that we were valued customers and that there was one empty seat in F but one pax had not yet shown up or OLCI, and that he would try. When we moved to the CX lounge. The dragon had already been notified and she said that she would contact us in the lounge if there was good news (without me asking her anything). Unfortunately, she came to me fifteen minutes later with bad news and profuse apologies. Great staff!

(...) Great staff!

You assume right. As I said, the non-upgrade itself was not the problem. The staff attitude was and your story with CX describes what the right attitude should be.

But this was CX, not AF...
