Please remove your headsets on approach...

Just a thought...(while I was using AVOD on approach)

Why does AC require those who use "over the ear" or "on the ear" style headphones to remove them on approach, while those that use "in the ear bud" earphones can continue to use them (and the AVOD) on approach and landing.

Probably because they think that the over the ear ones are more likely to be noise canceling than ear bud type headphones. They need to be able to get passengers attentions in a hurry in case something happens and they need to get people off the plane. A big dude in an emergency exit row using noise canceling headphones might potentially block an exit for allot of people because he is sleeping and doesn't hear anything.

Little do they know that noise canceling headphones come in all shapes and sizes...

Noise cancelling headphones would just allow a person to hear the announcements even better because they filter out white noise. Noise isolating headphones could be a problem though.

That is probably the reason though but that just shows you how little they know about the headphones that they sent out to all you lucky SEs.

The guy sitting next to me on my last flight had ear buds and the volume they were at would classify them as noise cancelling....I'm sure they cancelled out every little bit of noise from his perspective. :D

Ear bud types headphones come right off should there be a need to get up quickly in the event of an evacuation, over the ear types don't.

Not sure what you mean, the rule never stated that you can't use those. Have you been told otherwise?

All Canadian carriers answer to a higher authority - Transport Canada.

I believe along with having to stow PTV's in Executive First Suites for landing/approach, these were the terms set out by T.C. and agreed upon to allow gate to gate IFE.

Only about 20% of my flights in the past couple of months have had gate to gate IFE. Many FAs are still operating by the old rules, and make no apologies for it apparently.

And 95% of the time they do offer gate to gate IFE, the system resets following the safety briefing. Sometimes it allows you to resume but too often it doesn't. Kinda defeats the point.

I am but one.....

We all receive the same documentation, directives and transmittals.

On a side note, I've been on 4 sectors this month (2 deadhead & 2 personal travel), where the IFE was operating gate to gate. Seems I've had better luck -- batting 100%.

I'm not sure we've had the pleasure to fly together - yet. Perhaps you will flying YYC-YYZ to and from my TK mileage run. ;)

It has been both Jazz and shorthaul and even longhaul - the oddest approach was from LIM-YYZ when the FAs were strapped in their seats for landing and one hopped up and ran down the J aisle slamming the screens shut. I have rarely seen a human move that quick b4.

Please let me know specific flight details next time if you don't get gate to gate IFE and we will deal with it. I fly on average over 30 flights a month and haven't really encountered this problem for a long while.

FYI - Jazz hasn't been certified to offer gate to gate IFE yet, hence it was turned off prior to landing.

If by TK you mean Turkish Airlines....

Planning a trip (as a regular person) in September. Only today, was YYZ added to their website as a bookable destination - following the launch of their new YYZ/IST service!

YYC-YYZ not in my forseeable future, but wish you safe travels and of course....gate to gate IFE!
