Missing Connection fees?
Hi All -
I'm attempting to book a flight YVR-YWG for work. Many flights have a layover in Calgary. I'm thinking of dashing off for a quick meeting while in Calgary but am aware the timing is tight. Does anyone know the cost if you miss the second leg of your connection? I'm debating if it would be worth it or if I should just buy 2 separate tickets! Appreciate any feedback. |
Why not book a later connection from the get go. Can be up to 4hrs domestically.

I think this isn't an option for this city pair. It isn't showing up as a connection option b/c the next flight out pushes the connection to 5+hours because of the scheduling.
i.e. Arrival would be 09:15 scheduled connection depart at 12:00 next available flight yyc-ywg isn't until 14:10 |
You could book a later departure ex-YVR that connects with the later connecting flight you'd want to take. Then show up at the airport and pay the standby or change fee to fly on the earlier flight and hope nobody insists you take the earlier connecting flight too.

If you book through the multi-city option on the AC website you can choose the specific flights you want. Often, the fare will price out to the same as booking the regular way despite the fares that show up for each leg when you choose your leg. I just did a dummy booking to double check this as I haven't done it for a while and the base fares were $113 and $159 for the two legs I had chosen but at the final fare page it came to $189 for both so that seems still to work. You just have to choose the flights to see what they will cost. I suggest that you do it this way and then if your meeting goes short you can always try a sameday change in YYC.

That makes sense, good suggestion. It is probably just pricing to a slightly higher fare that allows a stopover maybe?
