Threshold Bonuses - do segments apply?

While I have been racking up segments, my status miles are relatively low. It looks like I will achieve SE this year based on segments (100+) but I predict that I will only achieve about 68,000 status miles. In looking at the current SE benefits, I note that one can receive threshold bonuses once you pass certain levels/thresholds of status miles...unfortunately there is no statement relating to passing certain levels/thresholds based on segments. Can someone clarify that threshold bonuses only apply to status miles flown and not segments.

If this is true, it seems like the segment flyer is at a serious disadvantage in terms of receiving threshold bonuses. This seems odd given that Aeroplan specifically targets customers into acheiving status based on segments, while not providing them with ALL of the benefits once status is achieved.

Correct. Threshold Bonuses only apply for miles, and NOT for segments.

True, but it is assumed that segment earning elites fly short hauls within a restricted geography, so giving out SWUs more frequently based on segments would be unfair to mileage-based elite earners, and be of little use to segment-based fliers who have fewer long-hauls to use them on. You still get the full complement at the start of each year, so not sure what you'd do with dozens of generally unusable SWUs? I suppose you could upgrade from Latitude fares on Central and Western triangles, but if you're paying for Latitude fares, and doing that many segments, surely you'd be getting upgrades with a Latitude pass (which also comes with the option of earning 2 SWUs or SSWUs depending upon your elite status).

I assume you have selected the milage bonus to bump up your useable miles, so I see the trade-off being quite fair on the past of AC in this respect. Could you actually make use of more SWUs?

My BIS is usually on a DASH-8, paid trip at a time by government agency, who do not purchase Passes.

I would use the Certificates on personal travel time or when I get a chance to get out of a DASH-8.

But there is alos the Threshold Gifts, such as when you reach 150K Status miles. Nada for 150 segments.

Agree with OP.I hit the daily double every year and generally get a lot more segments than miles.
The certs come in handy during times that Mrs.acysb87 travels with me on jaunts cross country or to Quebec City:cool:.
I have always been an advocate of certs being issued at threshholds corresponding to segments as well as those who receive at mileage.
