So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.
Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.
It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.
Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

The last few posts seem to indicate the fee + taxes. Here's my YYZ-HKG LMU:
Departure City: TORONTO-T1 YYZ
Destination City: HONG KONG HK HKG
Fee Breakdown:
Paid Upgrade AC015 YYZ-HKG - 899.00 CAD
Fee - 899.00 CAD
-----------------------------------------
Total (per passenger) - 899.00 CAD
Total - 899.00 CAD
There wasn't any HST charged to my card, so perhaps it's really $899-13%?

AC 15 YYZ-HKG yesterday on AP tix.
$948 No HST.
Took it as it's good value for the ultra-longhaul.
On a side note, J was half full at best at door close. I wonder if some business pax have jumped ship and switched to CX and their new product.

Maybe low LMU prices on long-haul trans-Pac implies better likelihood of upgrades?

AC LMU - at least within North America - is a rip off.
American is offering a paid upgrade to their "first" on the YUL-MIA route for CAD 165 all in. And the economy booking class N moves to business C.

Example fare: Outbound 01-Dec-2012 Return 16-Dec-2012
AC $7,147
CX $6,648
UA $5,950
TK $5,878
LH $6,715
LX $6,216
DL $5,407
9W $6,108
KE $4,549
Why does one want to fly AC, unless one is "roped" to AC through some corporate arrangements?
The price difference of $500 more expensive than CX is "laughable". Both offering non-stop service and CX will also throw in a pair of HKG-TPE, or HKG-PVG, or HKG-PEK return business class ticket for you at no additional cost. A nice short side trip. CX's new J seat is very nice.

I flew AA C ORD-YYZ and hated every minute of it. I'm glad that AC charges "rip-off" prices for LMUs - at any cost I would hate if AC J became like AA/UA/US "F".
Back to the costs of LMU.
My teacher (ex-AC*E) was flying YUL-BCN round-trip on cheap T+ ticket. He is totally computer uninformed, so he asked the checkin agent: "I'm so tired, do anything to put me in J, here's my Credit Card". The cost was about 700 CAD each way, he claims. Also he had problems with this in BCN, they told him to go to the LH ticket desks and do it there. But eventually they figured everything out.

LHR-YYZ 9/27 959.00GBP+tax

Very good price considering its 1299 for YYZ-NRT. There is no HST/GST on inter-continental fare. HST/GST charged only on the $25 airport improvement fee.

Thanks for clarifying. I can't recall, but I believe an LMU was available for HKG-YYZ via YVR, but I wanted to experience 18 A/C or 18 J/K for future flying reference.

YVR-YYC, Tango Fare, $199 - Declined
I would consider it if a LMU gave status segments/miles. The whole "original fare option" thing irks me.

interesting. i know that a collegue of mine who normally just hits 35K decided that since he will not make 50K, there is no point in him being loyal to AC for a flight to HKG in Dec...and sure enough, after i showed him some photos of CX's J...voila, he booked CX even though it was more than AC...

A lot of flyers are in the same situation and these flyers always buy discount Executive First fare. It is also a group that AC probably does not want to see going elsewhere. I can see why AC raised the bench mark to 50K to prune those on Tango Plus as well as the reduced 50% accrual ratio for Tango, but the mere 25% COS does not cut it. Many have stuck with AC because they made it to *G/E at 35K. When this is no longer true, there is less or no incentive to stick to AC. I have previously suggested here to give higher COS when flying premium fares on AC metal to soften the effect. AC seemed to disagree.

OuTRAGEOUS!
Last weekend on AA:
YUL-MIA $165 to C (a flight from heaven!)
MIA-YUL $ 135 to C (a very good flight)
And AA has 40" legroom on B737-500 in J/C, a hard wall divider (no nasty curtain), service with a smiles at all times on both flights, and even (cheap) sparkling wine. Have I found a new home?
