So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.
Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.
It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.
Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

I flew from LHR to YVR late last month. I enquired at the ticket desk and check-in in LHR and I was told that they have stopped offering LMU's from LHR since early January.
The check-in agent said it was due to too many people relying on them, instead of purchasing a full J class ticket in advance of check-in.

Hmm, inconsistency appears. Just did OLCI now, and BOS>YYZ was $199 (I turned that down) and YYZ>YVR was $319. Since my base fare BOS>YVR was only $348, the upgrade to YVR was a definite steal.
This is for travel leaving BOS 0850 on March 1st. I expect YVR will be a glorious zoo, but fortunately my connection in YVR (over to YQQ on 9M) stays airside all the way.
By the bye, this is the first time I've been offered an LMU for the YYZ>YVR leg.

First time I've ever been offered a LMU. I'm usually confirmed in J with certs or flight passes but for this flight to YYT I thought I'd take advantage of some really cheap T+ fares a while back. I figured I'd be fine in the back. Don't want to blow a SSWU this early in the year.
Well, I just couldn't do it: YYZ-YYT $259, OLCI @ 20, T+, accepted.
Incidentally, I didn't get offered the upgrade when I tried earlier through the iPhone app. I've rarely been in this situation before so I don't know if that's normal.

Why are y'all looking at the total ticket price to determine the value? That's completely nonsensical.
If you get a free ticket and then are asked $500 to upgrade the only question is whether the upgrade is worth $500 to you. It's the same upgrade as if you paid $1,000 and then are offered an upgrade for $500. The fact that the total fare is $500 in the first case and $1,500 in the second case is irrelevant. If $500 is too much for the upgrade then it's too much for both cases. If it's worth it then it's worth it in both cases.
By your logic, would you take a $500 upgrade on a free ticket but turn down a free upgrade on a $1,000 ticket?

Yul-yyz-sna $389
YUL-YYZ-SNA OLCI ~19.5 hours before flight.
Upgrade on YYZ-SNA segment only, $389, declined. Y looks at least 1/2 empty, at least on seat selection screen. Total T+ fare for YUL-SNA was "only" $244.26 ai.
At time of offer, flight was showing J9 C9 D9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W0 S0 L0 K9 N0 G0 P0 T0 E0.

Also, what was your companion's original fare class? $849 is pretty good if on a Tango Plus.
