So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.

Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.

It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.

Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

Same thing.
I also remember YVR YYC being around that price.

Unbelievable price

I just checked in online, at the T-24 hour mark for YVR-SYD. They wanted 1498 to upgrade my flight. T+ L fare.

This is an excellent price comparing to the normal price of discount Executive First, about $3,400 or so each way where as a Tango Plus is anywhere from $500~$1,000. Add $1,500 to it, one is still saving $1,000. It's huge discount.

I actually paid 1430 all in for the Y seat (websaver sale combined with 15% discount from a non-functioning IFE complaint). I just find it hard to swallow paying more than the original price for the upgrade.

I do agree that cheap T+ fares and LMU's are cheaper than paid J, however I do have limits.

The fare that I quoted was just the fare, before taxes and all the miscellaneous charges.

I assume that you have meant $1,430 all-in for a roundtrip or about $715 each way.

The normal price of discount Executive First (fare only, not all in) is 6~7 times more expensive than Tango Plus. Maybe you will now appreciate why those actually have paid real $$ to fly Executive First are upset to only get a mere 25% COS. That is also the reason why some other airlines are offering 50~100% COS on premium fares because these are high margin profit generators.

The LMUP that you mentioned was a very good deal.

+1 on it being a good deal. My tipping point for a LMU is $100 per hour, so $1,498 for a 15:30 flight meets my needs. $599 YYC-YYZ does not.

Obviously everything is in the eyes of the beholder, but doesn't seem like a hot deal to me. I would easily pay myself $1500 to sit in Y for the flight. Even if you earn 100k a year, that be 4-5 days worth of take home pay. Obviously many on the board earn much more than that so its all relative.

I would take it for $800-$900, but only on YVR-SYD since the way back it's a day flight anyway.

This, in my view, is the most logical way anyone has suggested to evaluate a last minute upgrade offer. If I had an upgraded seat and someone offered me $LMU to move back to Y, would I take that deal? If the answer is 'yes', refuse the LMU. If the answer is 'no', take the LMU. Seems like a pretty cut and dried approach to this "dilemma".
