So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.

Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.

It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.

Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

No upgrade offer during OLCI at T-24. Checked on-line a couple of times before leaving for the airport with no success. Asked at the check-in counter and they said to check at the gate. Was resigning myself to being in PY, but went to the gate early and bingo, a seat was available. First time I have ever upgraded and paid at the gate.
Jeez! I am going to make a note to ask at the gate next time.

Thanks for the info ^

Kind of pricey... the difference between Y and J isn't usually very much on that route. No way I'd spend $400CAD on that route, either, especially if I was already in a preferred seating row.

23 May, YYZ-EWR $129 from Flex.
Was tempted but ultimately decided against it.

Of course now i'm questioning whether or not I should have done it, especially since the tickets were bought using avion points.

Not sure I'd do it, but that is a damn good price. On Flex YYC-YVR I usually see $270.

Yeah it's much less than the $100/hr threshold that some people consider a good deal. However, for J on an E190 that is half full, I didn't think it was worth it.

$ 500 NRT-YYZ on 787 to upgrade from PE (O) to J. Have never seen that low a price for transpacific flight.

Accepted in a heartbeat. Sitting in the lounge at NRT waiting to board.

Note that the price was $1388 on the YYZ-NRT initial flight which I declined

Wow. Indeed a good price for a TPAC flight. I would have taken it as well. ^

I would too and I am on this route this weekend. Wonder if it is because PE to J and perhaps Y to J would be higher.

Yes, at first I was quoted a little over $1000 to upgrade, then then check in agent realized she was quoting Y to J and said wait, you are premium economy so it is $500 (well, they converted it to yen of course). The J cabin was full on the flight.

Either way, when I was flying to Narita in PE, the upgrade cost was $1388. $500 is so much nicer a figure

Allow some time if doing this as you can only do it at the airport. They ended up sending be over to an ANA ticket counter to take care of the actual payment which took about 10 minutes to process.
