So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.

Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.

It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.

Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

April 24 - YYC to YVR (AC203) - $227 from a Tango fare, declined
April 24 - YVR to YYC (AC212) - $243 from a Tango fare, declined

When I booked, the difference between my fare and the lowest business class fare was about $300 each way.

Dang! It seems that's so hard to get upgrades!!

I am trying to get on a 787/788 and I saw a YVR - YYZ.. and I'm planning to use my eUpgrade credits as an Altitude member to put into this.

I wonder how good are my chances?

It is a good deal, but they'd never get me to do it. I'm not broke, but $1300 on the spot would never fly out of my pocket like that. I just can't justify it to myself. It's a price I would've paid in advance probably but not last minute. Plus without the COS bonus and stuff on Tango you're still getting 50% miles instead of the 150% (or is it 125%) that the J fare would get.

Wish I had this kinda cash

What would a fair price be for an upgrade from Tango on YYZ-LHR on a 77W (two-class bird, 3x3x3 layout in Y)?

My instinct is that I'd pay up to about $1,300 for an upgrade. Never flown in J TATL.

It's worth as much as you are willing to pay

But a lot of people here would say $100/h is the max they are willing to pay.

Others will say that they are willing to pay up to X*0.9*(power((1+r),t))*N(p) - Y; where r is their discount rate, X is the price of a P fare 90 days out, Y is the price of their fare purchased, and N(p) is the cumulative probability of not getting an OpUp.

Thanks. On the hourly scale I'd be looking at $700, but it seems the lay-flat seats add some value.

It's a special anniversary on this trip so I might be prepared to overpay a little just for the experience. Unfortunately the J fares when I booked were way more than I could justify.

PhotoJim I think the other thing to look at is your current seating and situation.

1. If you had status, I think it's worth less since you'd have picked preferred seats likely already, thus upping your comfort.

2. I understand not wanting to pay the upfront price and that you wanna gauge what's a decent price, but don't forget that paying for an LMU doesn't mean you'll sit next to whoever is assumed to be on this anniversary trip with you.

With no status, and since you get no bonus buying an LMU, you might just be better off buying 2 preferred seats, maybe strategically leaving the middle seat open in an attempt to get 3 seats to share. If someone buys the middle or gets the middle, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to switch with one of you.

Was this from a Tango or Flex ticket?

If Tango, it's not too bad as the typical fare difference with lowest business is about $490~500.

If Flex, it is not a very good deal as the typical fare difference is about $350~370.
