So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.

Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.

It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.

Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

YVR-LAX, OLCI, $330 from Preferred to Premium Rouge.

Thoroughly declined. After you account for the extra 500 AQM and the ipad, that's still the world's most expensive plate of chicken couscous...

You don't get a COS bonus for LMUs.

I was looking for this thread and couldn't find the damn thing, naturally you can't search LMU either, I searched "here" but that didn't do it for me either. For once I paid attention to this!

SFO-YVR, AC 1843 7:25am flight on a Tuesday from Tango L $407 USD

PASS!!!

I was offered this on the app, for some reason the app wouldn't let me check-in as the agent needed to see my documents even though when I did check-in she said they already had it and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work.

I was promptly op-upped at the gate anyways

I don't know all the ins and outs of revenue management but if they had offered it only to me at say $100 USD (despite low fare, I'm SE) I probably would've taken it. If they're pretty sure they're gonna have to upgrade people anyway, why not offer it cheaply to the few people you are likely to upgrade? Pleasant flight, standard egg breakfast, slept through the rest, not that I would've ever paid $407+20% for exchange, I'm glad I got to try the product.

Because they don't want you to have the mindset that you can upgrade from Tango for $100, because then you'll never even buy Flex

For some unknown reason the AC app will not issue boarding passes but does sell LMU on transboarder flights. Checking in online thru web browser will issue boarding pass though. Strange. Not sure why this is.

but LMU is not "guaranteed" to be available for sale.

If the total cost of fare + LMU = lowest business at time of booking, it makes no sense at all to buy the LMU especially LMU does not get any COS. If someone would want to buy J, that person would have bought J already. It's should be a case where there are unsold seats very near to the time of departure, so how about "trying to sell them" by offerring a small discount rather than leaving the gate empty. Travellers who do not buy J but decide to wait whether LMU would be offered are playing a form of lotto. No guarantee that it would be available. There is also no COS.

Because there are almost always seats available. I think I've had one flight in the past two years that was J0 at OLCI.

Selling TOD upgrades is just going to get service reduced to UA levels, which I do not want to see.

I agree with you guys under the condition that the flight isn't oversold. But when you KNOW you're gonna have to upgrade someone (IE: me) regardless of my fare class wouldn't it make it worth your while to squeeze me for $100?

I wouldn't think it's a PLAN going forward, because still the flight would need to be oversold for me to ever get an offer like that.

I suppose if you saw it twice though, you'd get the idea then the third time, you wouldn't pay cuz you know you'd be high on the list to upgrade. Obviously the LMU would only be that low for such a short flight.

LMUs are never gonna be what I want them to be, and I understand the purpose they serve, I just feel like AC does leave money on the table from time to time with them.

Yes when available. I flew this route in January and was offered the option to LMU to PE or J.

Because it needs to be printed. Whether a web check-in BP or issued at a kiosk/by an agent, CBP needs something to stamp. Been like this for quite some time.
