Priority Security Screening
 

I was at YYZ last week in the priority line (the one just after US Customs). As we got to the part where you come to the wall, the gentelman in front of me calls to the AC agent and says he's sorry but he did not realize that this was a priority line and asks if he has to move. The AC agent says "no, it doesn't matter anyways". I politely asked the agent why she does not enforce the rules because it is a benefit for E's, SE's, etc. She tells me it doesnt matter because she's seen a huge line for the priority screening at times so what's the difference. She did not understand that it is a benefit that will work for us only if it is enforced. Is it really that hard to just look at boarding passes of people in line?
That being said, yesterday, same YYZ US security, the agent asked to see my boarding pass and I happily showed it to him, went right in with no line while the other lines all had about 4-6 people in them, so the benefit worked.
Anyone had similar experiences?

Well, she is right and wrong. For all the YYZ haters around here. Security lines are usually very short and staffed with a lot of people (noticed I didn't say "well staffed"). I have never seen a huge line, except for maybe two or three times.

However, it is not AC's responsibility to enforce that line, CASTA and YYZ are

Acutally I think AC has responsibilities at YYZ that don't seem like they should belong to AC. Maybe someone can shed some light on these...why is it that an AC staff member always stands at customs and tells you which US agent to go to. They also have AC agents on the way into Canada, does AC have some responsibility with YYZ to do this?

BTW - regardless how short they are, they can be shorter for us that have earned that privilege, I was not complaining about the 4 minute wait in the security line, but the relative 4 minute wait which could have been zero minutes if the benefit was enforced. In fact, the same could apply for every other AC/ AE benefit.

Departure times. Back in T2 Ive waited a couple times up to 1 hr and eventually was fast tracked. Now with nexus it's not an issue.

Who cares...? The line ups at YYZ are so small that most of the time its faster in other lines other than Priority. Priortiy ...YA RIGHT!
By the way if there is a line up just go downstairs to the main level and presto..75% less people and your in and out! ^

I went through the other day 2 priority lines were open.

The security said boarding pass please; and as this was happening someone told 16+ folks too move over into the 2 priority lines.

Some say its quick and I'm sure at times it is however maybe 10 trips through this year for me 2 have been fast the rest of the time it seems the check takes twice as long in this priority line.

Depending on what I see as the lineups, I will pick whichever line seems to get me going through quickest. For better or worse, the priority lines also tend to be used by the airport/airlines for those who require assistance. If they are going to provide "us" with a priority line, I think that they should also provide at least one special care/handling line that would also serve the regular lines otherwise.

I do not begrudge the elderly folks who they help through the security screening process at all, but it would be nice if they could be assisted in a way that would not affect those trying to get to their flights. These people are probably on a trip of a lifetime, and it should be made as comfortable and efficient for them as possible. The embarassment of looking stupid in front of the whole crowd of people, and the dirty looks they get from impatient travellers can not help in making their experience pleasant.
