Routes that do not have fuel surcharges (YQ) when operated by carriers that normally charge YQ:

1. USA-Germany-Other country. If only the Germany-other country segment is on LH it does not have YQ. E.g. DFW-FRA-BLR with TATL on UA and FRA-BLR on LH.
2. USA-Canada-Other country. The USA-Canada segment on AC does not have YQ if the Canada-Other country segment is operated by a carrier that does not charge YQ. E.g. DFW-YYZ-ADD.

Holy cow, that's awesome. I really want to fly direct to London, but the charges are just a killer

Seriously? You couldn't add in another Star Alliance carrier leg in somewhere since you're allowed 2 stopovers?

I see you've joined recently but you should know it's well documented that pure AC reward itins have the highest fees.

YYC-YYT in J, $100 taxes and fees

YYC-YYT in J, $105.50 taxes and fees X 2 tickets = $211

and 30% more points (oh well gets the points down to less than a million)

I'm facing the same thing when I book YVR - LHR next month. Either give up the nice direct flight and get rerouted god knows where through the US or payup.

Yyz-ord-sfo-yyc-yvr-yyz

YYZ - ORD (F) UA
ORD - SFO (F) UA (destination)
SFO - YYC (J) AC
YYC - YVR (J) AC (stopover)
YVR - YYZ (J) AC

This trip costs 40,000 miles and $175.46 in taxes & surcharges. I also noticed that on my e-tix receipt the amount of taxes & surcharges specified is less than what I paid actually paid for.

On e-tix receipt- $154.08
Actually paid - $175.46

Does anyone know anything about this??

Thanks!

Is there anyway to check what the fees would be for a Star Alliance flight before booking? I know I can do a pretend booking on AC metal, but no idea how to get the fees for say a Lufthansa reward ticket. Would they be similiar to what I'd pay if I were buying a ticket?

Identical, except perhaps that you may not get hit with YQs/YRs.

E-tix reported in USD, but charged in CAD, perhaps?
