And why can't Aeroplan be a little more generous, and be like AA to allow one free change?

I booked this mini-RTW in July before LH started charging for the fuel surcharge. The taxes still come out to almost 600 pounds sterling which seems horrendous to me. I have yet to fly the final leg from YXS to LCY and want to make a date change so I understand I have to pay even more because they will impose an LH surcharge.

I wanted to take advantage of the free class upgrade but I booked this while in Asia so was restricted to booking on the web. I searched for a few hours and the taxes and fees ranged from $477 to over $1300 for various routes. The $477 had the same outgoing flights but returned with a 7 hour layover in ORD and a Y flight on the last leg to YOW. I didn't like the times and thought the Y might mean no lounge access for my 7 hour layover - so I booked the following instead. I'm really not happy about all the YQ but at least it was J for 75,000 points.
